Seriously--How the hell do I get more calories?

    Primal Fuel
I posed a question last week about whether I was "Doing It Right" since I started PB. Tomorrow will be the beginning of my 6th week.

I am happy with the changes my body has made so far. I still want to get rid of some small love handles, improve my muscle mass and definition and just generally be healthy for a 63 yr old male. And having a few muscles wouldn't be bad either.

But I am eating great ever day, when I am hungry and not because of the clock, eating till I am satisfied, and not snacking. I am not worried about gaining weight, that for sure will come with increased muscle. But I don't want to lose the muscle that I am trying so hard to build.

Today I had a mid-morning breakfast of 4 scrambled eggs, with cheese, scallions and red pepper, plus 3 strips of bacon and some sliced tomato. I was not hungry again until diner.

Dinner was 16oz of Fillet Mignon, grilled asparagus, onions and red peppers and a salad with a little oil and crumbled bleu cheese.

According to FitDay I have consumed just 1835 Cal, 126g Protein, 29g Carbs and 130g Fat.

Everything I read says that my body is burning about 2600 calories just moving and breathing.

What else can I eat that will give me the right kind of calories? Right now I am "Stuffed" and I know that I will not want anything else to eat for the rest of the night. So anything I try to do to improve my calorie intact will be a challenge.

Any suggestions? I know that this may seem dumb as hell. There are a lot of people here that are really busting their asses to try and lose some pounds.

    I am all ears.

    Sonny

If you want to make sure you get enough calories, my advice would be to incorporate nuts and cheese. Macadamia nuts are great for you and pack a serious calorie punch- 230 calories for, like, less than 15 of them...

That and red wine- extra calories that will actually stimulate your appetite.

It sounds like your goal is to lose fat, so if your body burns 2600 cals just living, and you're eating 1800-2000 cals, you're right on track for great weight loss. Relax and enjoy the ride!

Buoy1, thanks for the suggestions. Going right our tomorrow to WF and pick up the nuts. My wife really enjoys good red wines and we have a wine cooler here in the house. I just need to try to remember that I should have a glass every so often. Come to think of it, should have had one with the steak tonight.

    Thanks

Trish thank you. I am most definitely new to all of this and I just want to make sure that what I lose is not the muscle I am working so hard to gain. Just really getting into the fitness part this last week. I found the SimpleFit workout here on the forum and it seems right up my alley. I also am working out with slosh pipes and back to doing some biking. Really bad knees kind of take the sprinting out of the equation.

    Thanks again,

    Sonny

Those online calculators aren't necessarily accurate. There's probably a whole lot more that contributes to your BMR than age, height and weight. My advice to you is to trust your body. If you are satisfied, there's no need to force more food into yourself.

Boy howdy, I can relate to rotten knees! I got completely out of high school without taking P.E. thanks to my awesome knees (and physical therapy). Word of advice: try to keep your nightshades to a minimum. I find it really helps (me anyway).

If you're in need of more calories, then why are you eating low-carb? Add portions of starch to each meal, and you should be closer to your goals.

If you are concerned about maintaining muscle make sure you are getting enough protein! at least 1g per 1lb of lean body mass.

I'm jealous, I wish I had your appetite. I've had the exact same breakfast and I'll be hungry 4 hours later ;| I'm also at least 1/3rd less then your size.
