    How does the body Digest Meat?

    I was wondering this. You hear a lot of crazy stuff about how our bodies digest meat. How it rots ect....

    Mostly its the crazy vegans spreading the lies about meat rotting.

    You should know that there be wee little folk, leprechauns living in your GI tract and when you swallow a piece of meat they all jump out and whoop the shit out of the meat with their shilelaghs.

    That's how we digest meat.

    well...some becomes poo. but yeah, we absorb what we need from meat, meaning the protein, fat, vitamins, etc.
    --agreed that the meat rotting thing is mostly vegan/vegetarian propaganda.

    This is exactly why we also allow yogurt & probiotics in the diet, to make sure they are well nourished so they can do their job!

    Meat is a far more digestible source of energy than the sticks of cardboard vegetarians eat. Primal = less poop for a reason. Most of what we eat actually gets used.

    Yogurt and probiotics should not be necessary unless you have some sort of illness to recover from. Or if you drink a glass of vinegar on a dare. Word.

    At the risk of being far too serious for this thread:

    Your stomach secretes hydrochloric acid, which breaks down the protein in the meat into smaller bits and liquifies it. This mixture passes into the small intestine, where the acid is neutralized and enzymes are excreted that further break down proteins into amino acids, and emulsify fats into absorbable compounds. These are mostly absorbed through the villi in the intestine. Bacteria in the gut assist with this whole process.

    Whatever's left goes into the large intestine where putrefactive bacteria will continue to process it, and convert some of it into butyric acid (a fat) which you can then absorb for some further energy. But in the case of meat, there is almost nothing left by the time it gets to large intestine because meat is almost completely digestible.

    It's actually fibrous veggies and grains that "rot" in the colon because we can't digest fiber so it passes through mostly whole, then bacteria ferment some of it ("rot it"), which is what makes you fart, and some of it is pooped out. Most of the volume in healthy poop is actually bacteria and water.

    The stomach's acid also provides the necessary low pH environment for the release and function of the powerful proteolytic enzyme, pepsin.
