I don't care what the mean internet says about ya.

Yeah this guy makes fun of some "low-carb gurus" (but some do deserve it) but I think he makes a lot of sense, just has a weird way of getting his points across.

I agree with Colpo on some points and I think he's got some good ideas. I do think that he's a bit of dick though and there's a reason why he's got the comments turned on his site.

Yeah, I stopped reading at "Paleotards".

but he's making sense otherwise! He just got shit from Robb Wolf once (Wolf called him a cherry picker on his podcast) so Colpo became anti-paleo (he's really anti anything low-carb) but his diet is essentially paleo, just much higher carb. He seems to get into it with people that he thinks are touting "fads."

I obviously don't agree with his paleo hate, and he's too proud to admit he eats paleo, but you have to admit, just like there's many dumb vegans, there's plenty of dumb paleos that think it's low carb or death.

I agree that there is a wide range of what is the optimal level of carbs for different people. I happen to be one of the people for whom low carb really worked. The name calling is just, as Daemonized said, being a dick. I'm not going to wade through the writings of a dick to maybe get to some good info. There is plenty of good info in the PB.

Fair enough, I find his style appealing.

Thank you so much for that, it's been a while since I've read him. I do wonder whether he gets any current info on the direction of the Paleo movement, as when I started last novermber the re-enactment and low-carb-for-all camps were already in retreat (as far as the sites I read anyway).

Amen. I used to read his stuff, but he put me off by just being such an arrogant ar$ehole.

Yeah I don't think he is actively researching paleo bloggers, but he does think highly of some of them (the Jaminets I think? I also think he had email exchanges with Masterjon (sp?) and others re carb intake but on the friendlier side)

His point (to me, anyway) is to be more balanced, to not shut everything off just because you're "paleo" or "vegan" especially in this piece. He's trying to tell this person that just because "every time you eat meat is one less chance to eat veggies" doesn't mean he should never eat meat and always eat veggies, balance is important.

I've been VLC, no carb, more carb, way too much carb, etc etc and still tinkering and lately just eating more intuitively, but there were times when I thought I had to be VLC because I didn't yet understand everything. I think his issue with "paleotards" is that they'll drag their asses through glycogen-depleting workouts time and time again and stubbornly refuse to eat carbohydrate (think crossfit, etc, not saying all CFers don't eat carbs, but I'm sure there's some trying to make it through with just leafy greens) because they think potatoes "aren't paleo", know what I mean? I definitely agree with him on that, we can sometimes forget common sense in order to fit into a lifestyle.

On the flipside, if you're an athlete that doesn't require that much carbs then you don't have to stuff yourself silly with them. I don't eat that much of it, probably averaging 600-800g/week TOPS which is really not a lot (that figure doesn't include non-starch veg). I don't do activities that are that heavy, and through experimentation I've found that I can do my weight lifting on less carbs than I thought originally. If I were a bike-rider or something like that (like Colpo) I may eat a lot more starch, but I'm not so it doesn't apply to me.
