Question Please help me figure out what to eat!

    Shop Now
    Hi All,

I am not exactly primal just yet, but am in the process of giving up grains, about a week in and doing well so far. I have been vegetarian for the last couple of years and have started feeling extremely fatigued all the time so have added fish back into my diet. So my proteins would be fish, eggs and dairy.

Problem is I evidently don't have a very good imagination with my bread and pasta gone and am having a hard time coming up with things to eat. Breakfast is usually a kefir or coconut smoothie with fresh fruit, eggs w/ veggies or both if I am real hungry. Lunch has been mainly salads and supper has been some type of fish with a salad or veggies. If I feel I absolutely need a snack then I may do a handful or nuts or some celery w/ goat cheese or almond butter or maybe string cheese. I am finding I am pretty hungry all the time but I think it is because I am craving the grains/carbs.

So, what type of of foods would you suggest for someone who is a pescatarian?

Another question is about alcohol. If I drink I usually have a beer or two, but I don't want to do that anymore. So for those of you who indulge every now and then, what do you drink?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cali

I eat apples with almond butter as a snack at the office. I also like walnuts and dried fruits such as prunes as a mid-morning pick-me-up. I have eggs quite a few mornings a week or cottage cheese with some fruit in it. I used to drink a beer in the evening, but now I have a glass of red wine and occasionally have a Woodchuck hard cider. The hunger will eventually diminish after the grains are flushed from your system.

    Hi Cali. Welcome.

Up to one glass of wine/day is fine.

I would say more fat - butter, cheese, whole milk yogurt. If the string cheese is low fat, change to whole milk. Choose cold water fatty fish when you can. You should not be hungry on primal.

You might take a look at my Vegetarianism and Primal, even though you are no longer vegetarian.

colicowgirl, i'd like to know how you progress as I'm always hungry too. I've been going for 6days, ie. one week tomorrow and sometimes i'm so hungry i could eat the person beside me it's so ravenous. I've posted about this and they tell me it will go away to but I'm skeptical...crossing my fingers tho. I'm not a vegyn and do eat meat so i'm hoping the insanity passes.

good luck and look forward to your progress posts!

Thank you all who have responded so far! I did pick up some canned tuna at Costco today so will definitely be using it. Not exactly sure what to do with it though. lol I figure I could wap it in lettuce since bread is out, but I usually smother it with mayo and although I haven't read labels on mayo just yet, I'm figuring it is loaded with crap. So any ideas there?

Not sure why I hadn't thought of boiling eggs, especially as a quick snack when I feel the need for something. Thanks for the tip/reminder/idea!

@iFreedom- I will be sure and come back at some point and post how I am progressing. Are you 6 days into going full primal or are you doing like I am and only going grain free?

It is best to use homemade mayo, especially if you smother. If you buy store mayo, get plain old Best Foods. But only if you will use only a small amount.

If the things we have told you don't work, don't give up. Better to increase potatoes and other starchy veg, and have some beans than to give up. I know that is not primal. But I do great eating potatoes and beans. Just be careful about total carbs.

Another thing you may want to consider is making bone stocks. In your case I would suggest chicken bone stocks. You can buy chicken necks and backs at the store for very little money. Also, since this is not a highly marketable part of the chicken, you are consuming something that would otherwise have gone to waste.

You can put the chicken in a crock pot with some onions, carrots, and celery and let it cook for a long time. Then strain it and use the stock to make a very nourishing soup.

One of the more filling things I love to eat is cubed sweet potato stewed in coconut milk with cinnamon an nutmeg - so good and very filling! Coconut milk, coconut oil and butter/ghee are easy to add to things.

I agree with Hedonist. If you find you are starving, consider adding soaked beans and potatoes in to your diet. Still far better than going back to grains.

    Good luck!!
