    Birthday help!

    Shop Now
Hi everyone, my husband and I are relatively new to the primal way, and we're loving it! We are already experiencing the health benefits and I feel much happier in myself. I have a problem though. It is my husband's birthday soon and I would normally have made him a nice, but unhealthy, cake to celebrate. I haven't had much luck with the low carb recipes I've seen so far - can any of you help me?! thanks so much in advance

Instead of cake for my birthday, I got a candied apple from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I figure it's my birthday, so I'm gonna eat what I want anyway!
What does your husband want as a treat? Have you asked him?

My primal daughter had her first birthday recently and I needed to make a cake. I used this recipe CFSCC presents: EAT THIS!: Coconut Pound Cake with Strawberries and it was devine. I doubled the recipe and cooked it in two round cake tins. I iced it with cream and strawberries. It tasted just like cake.

I think one slice worked out to be around 500 cals with 50g Carbs so it is definitely not something I would make all the time. But for a very special occasion it was great. And on the plus side even with eating cake and gorging on primal party food, I still lost weight that week

What kind of dessert are you looking for? Can you be a little more specific. Do you do dairy? I have made my fair share of sugar-free, gluten-free, low-carb desserts. Are you willing to use erythritol & stevia?

Thanks so much for all your kind replies! More info, we are in the UK so some of our ingredients are different. My husbands favourite cake used to be angel cake but obviously that doesn't fit the primal way. But he pretty much will have anything creamy and gooey! Yes we do dairy (althou thinking of starting to phase it out, but that's not an issue yet!) thanks again!

I'd do a classic European flourless cake. Not sure how they fall out on the carb scale, but the recipe in New Best Recipes has no added sugar. Pure chocolate-ness.

+1. My sis-in-law made me one for my birthday. She admitted that it did have a little bit of sugar added - but not a lot and no grains! Plus she made fresh whip cream to top it with. Decadence!

For a REAL treat, I too do flourless chocolate cakes.

Also, I happened to stumble across a pumpkin-hazelnut cake recipe while searching for something else on Chris Kresser's blog today. You might try a quick search for that, if it sounds good.

    Red face Thank you!

Gosh I'd never even HEARD of flourless chocolate cake - on you guys' advice I googled it and found this recipe:
Flourless Chocolate Cake, Flourless Chocolate Cake Recipe, How To Make Diet Chocolate Cake, Low Carb Chocolate Cake, Diet Flourless Chocolate Cake, Cake Recipes, Chocolate Recipes
Its AMAZING! The recipe actually worked unlike some low carb stuff I've tried - and wasn't too complicated - and didn't invlove weird ingredients.
I'm not sure if its super-dooper paleo friendly - what do you think? At least it has no flour in - I never realised before but I think I'm allergic to that stuff and so happy without it in my life!

Think this will make a perfect birthday treat!
