I have been using ketosticks the past 2 days to monitor my level of ketones, mainly for interests sake. I had trace amounts by the end of the first day moderate amounts yesterday, trace this morning before sprints and none after sprints, two hours later and I have the level between trace and moderate....
Can anyone explain why after sprinting I would have no ketones till a few hours later (no food intake before sprints, only cup of decaf and cup of water)? Also can ketones appear due to a high fat meal rather than your body using stored fat for fuel?
Looking forward to your replies. Cheers Kaz

The "Seven Deadly Sins"
• Grains (wheat/rice/oats etc) . . . . . • Dairy (milk/yogurt/butter/cheese etc) . . . . .• Nightshades (peppers/tomato/eggplant etc)
• Tubers (potato/arrowroot etc) . . . • Modernly palatable (cashews/olives etc) . . . • Refined foods (salt/sugars etc )
• Legumes (soy/beans/peas etc)
Thanks Tarlach. Have had a look and it answers the questions perfectly.
Cheers
I hardly ever go into Ketosis.Do you do a regular fast?
Hi Graeme,'
I am new to primal eating, have cut out grains and most diary over the past month and after reading Marks book I have decided to take the plunge, the theory really sits well with me. I have just completed my first 15 hour fast this morning, and aim to build it by an hour each week, easing in. I found myself very hungry after the fast this morning, went for 1.5 hr walk then waited another half hour before eating. I am still hungry after having breakfast. I am going to start a diary today so you all can give me some pointers as I go along. I dont consume much fruit (only berries) eat heaps of veges at lunch and dinner but am struggling getting the carbs above 50g a day. Some days they have been below 30g, hence the ketosis.
I have just read the weight loss section of Marks book and see that it isnt necessary to go into ketosis, which is great. I was just playing around with it for interests sake more than anything.
Tips on increasing the carb intake would be good.
Cheers Kaz
kaz.au, more fruit would do it... do you just not like fruit other than berries? I mean, I think one banana has 28g of carbs (don't quote me on that) so that would help if you're trying to get your carbs up.
Is there a problem with having the carbs so low though?

Thanks FNW,
I do have some probs with fruit, I have had a terrible time with my hormones over the past few years and when my estrogen bottomed out, I developed these terrible rashes on my abdomen (doctors couldnt diagnose them). They are intensely itchy and get very inflamed, to the point that I could have gouged holes in myself. Overtime I noticed that different foods including fruits caused them to flare, like an allergy. So I dropped fruit because of that, and I had never been a huge fan anyway. I actually never ate any fruit before my hormonal disaster because it always made me quite hungry.
Since getting my hormones back on track (having a cycle again only 33), the rash has remained somewhat waiting to flare. I have noticed nuts also aggravate it, so am going to cut them out as well. I will have to eat lots of avocado and organic butter I think to get the fats up to a good level. I am contemplating seeing a specialist dermatologist to get it diagnosed correctly as a form of skin lymphoma can present similar rashes (have been researching the rash on the net) and often goes undiagnosed by mainstream doctors and pathologists.
Anyway raving a bit, but I do enjoy half a banana occasionally so might start having half a banana a day with some berries. I dont see that having low carbs would be too bad, but I have ramped up the exercise and will begin strengh training again when I get my kettlebells so might cause fatigue then. Would love to hear peoples opinions.
Cheers Kaz
I don't think you'll be fatigued if you keep the intensity at the right level (moderate in general) but I'm not sure... I'm still not exercising yet (recovering from surgery) so I don't know how my body will react, but I feel very energetic and my carbs have been pretty low.
I hope you get that rash issue under control! It does not sound like any fun at all!
