Greetings from OSU!
Hello fellow Grokers and Grokettes. Just thought I would introduce myself. If anyone on this forum is from Columbus let me knowI somewhat recently started to follow this diet, mainly to see if it helps with the gastrointestinal problems and seasonal allergies that I've had for most of my life. Plus, it helps you lose fat, and who doesn't want that!
Its only been maybe 2 weeks but I can definitely tell a difference. I have noticed that I have more energy throughout the day and feel (somewhat) more refreshed when I wake up in the morning, not to mentioned I've lost almost 8 lbs and haven't even been doing any cardio! due to an injured knee (injured via, you guessed it, chronic cardio). Plus, no more painful or strange poops! Wahoo! I'm waiting for spring time to see if such a diet really could help me when my allergies are at their worst. Fingers crossed.
I also had a few question for everyone. The main thing I'm worried about with this diet is that I'll lose muscle mass. Prior to starting this diet I was going to the gym a lot, eating a lot of carbs and protein to try and build muscle. Needless to say all that really accomplished is that I had horrific bowel movements all the time accompanied by me simply getting fatter (and probably a bit stronger). Not to say that I'm fat (6 foot, ~192 lbs) but I've always been a bit...doughy, if you will. I would really like to lose fat and put on some muscle (not like a bodybuilder or anything) and was wondering how successful other people have been with this and what kind of foods you ate to fuel such a process. Thanks![]()

Haha awesome, I just graduated last spring. Working in the biomedical research tower at the moment. Nice to meet you![]()
Well, I'm originally from Ohio (but down at The U now). You've definitely come to the right place as far as gaining quality information though!
Are you a college student, trying to navigate college while being Primal? Do you know any other PB college students on a tight budget? Heck, for that matter, are YOU trying to live Primal on a budget? Enroll at Primal University!

Welcome, BiggaWhat! Fear not that you will lose muscle mass on this diet. Personally, I had virtually no muscle at all for my entire life until I started eating primal. I cut my carbs down to just vegetables, increased my protein, started swinging a sledgehammer around, and was shocked at the rapid results.
Here is a thread that may help reassure you that gaining muscle mass is a natural consequence of this way of eating:

Vast riches await you!
Hey now, I'm from Columbus as well! I'm a member of the Paleo Meetup but I haven't attended yet. Graduated from OSU in 2009, living in Grandview Heights, have been primal for about two years. Nice to see some local love here![]()
Cleveland here!
Rawr! Columbus here too. It's a pretty awesome city to be primal in too, lots of good primal choices at restaurants, North Market, Clinton ville Community Co-op, and lots of others. Hell, we even have an outdoor climbing wall and *gasp* bike lanes. Send me a PM if you want and we can swap cool primal places.
