Would be amazing if there actually was a study to show that a fully function immune/detox system did limit effects. Im constantly reminding myself I dont have to eat everything as pure perfection and that my body will deal with a few impurities occasionally.

While I've never been a tobacco smoker myself, my understanding is that the bad effects are largely due to the oxidative stress of the smoke and the vasoconstrictive effects of the nicotine. Such stresses were not unknown to ancestral humans and can be mitigated by diet.

Excessive sugar, on the other hand, is a novel stress for which humans are not well adapted. Excessive sugar glycates proteins, creates insulin resistance that starves lean tissue of nutrients and leads to diabetes, upsets intestinal biota, feeds cancers and viruses, impairs fat oxidation, etc.

I'm sure smoking plain tobacco leaves is safer than the mysterious formaldehyde and carcinogen cocktail that gets passed off as tobacco in most cigarettes. I just smoke catalpa bean once in awhile for kicks.
Steak, eggs, potatoes - fruits, nuts, berries and forage. Coconut milk and potent herbs and spices. Tea instead of coffee now and teeny amounts of kelp daily. Let's see how this does! Not really had dairy much, and gut seems better for it.

Get real, ok sugars bad, but lets not be fucking ridiculous. Smoking is a million times worse for your body.

Breath through a straw, now imagine it for the rest of your life. That's what victims of emphysema suffer from.

And I regularly use mary jane

Haha, tobacco being the operative word there. One thing I hate being asked:

    "Do you smoke?"
"Ye n, er, is this a trick question?"

The best/least suspicious reaction to that question is to put on your serious "I'm the boss and you're in trouble" face, and calmly ask, as if they are the one out of line, "Smoke WHAT?".

A million times worse? Did you read the article? The general stats about the cost of both to society would imply obesity is hitting us harder.

emphysema is horrendous. but imagine being so overweight someone else had to take you to the toilet for the rest of your life. Or you had to inject yourself constantly for the rest of your life, we could play this game all day.
