I'm finishing up a blog post on my recent trip to Ledges Park, and I was reminded again of just how much I love bouldering. There's just something awesome about getting out on rocks and steep slopes with no equipment except your hands and feet.
As far as the trip went, getting out is always awesome, but it's got me itching for going to the Cherokee Rock Village this Christmas. Iowa just doesn't have much in the way of mountains, or hills.
I wanted to ask, what other Primal sports are big favorites here? I don't get the chance to do it often, but another sport I like quite a bit is the caber toss. Gotta love chucking logs!
Your bouldering pic is way more awesome than what we did yesterday. Can't wait till we can find a venue for some real climbing, we've only got a few spots of sandstone out here!
What's a primal sport? is it an activity early man had to do that modern man now does for fun? In that case: sex. I sure as hell ain't doing it to reproduce.
if hiking counts as a sport, then hiking. but i'm a big fan of bouldering too. plus soccer and ultimate. my absolute top favorite primal sport though is the spartan race...not really sure what that kind of thing is called though. obstacle racing? badassery?
basketball is my favorite primal sport
when i'm dropping the buckets, swatting the shots, i feel like grok

It really depends on the season. Paddling season is pretty much wrapping up in the midwest. But vbecause I like to race that ends up being more chronic cardio. But I love kayak/canoe racing so I will still overdo it.
I think I will restart orienteering now after a 20 year hiatus. It's a blast. And even though it involves running (if you want to be competitive - not required), the running is often up or down hills, through brush, along marshes, etc. the heart rate is usually not above 75% max for someone at a less than elite level. It's really a blast and now that I am fit again I'm really looking forward to it.
