I ran my 5th half marathon this weekend and by far felt the worst although my time was the same as usual. Does your metabolism change with age? i never felt so bad although i had trained very well without fatigue.

I just ran the Air Force Half Marathon in Dayton 2 weeks ago. I carbed up significantly for that race and did fine. But my previous experience has been that on low carb eating, I bonk out after about 45-50 minutes of running. In fact, I ate a lot more carbs in the whole last month before that race, as I did my long training runs. Unfortunately it involved lots of grains as I had vegetarian houseguests for the most of that time. But it resulted in a good run!
I ran it in 1:52, which is very close to my best time of 1:51, but because my training was going so well, i was aiming for under 1:50. Ran 14 k feeling good, then I fell apart. I ran out of fuel, never had that before, i am 47 and i think i may be in the beginning stages of menopause. perhaps my usual diet doesn,t do it anymore. i ate two slices of bread( kamut) with butter and blueberry jam. some gatorade, 1 cup of coffee, an orange about 3 hours before the race. i usually eat two hours before a race, but i read the night before that 3 hours was better.
I eat a ton of fruit and veggies regularly, pasta at least 2 times a week, rice once a week, whole wheat bread in the morning, oatmeal some of the time(trying to get away from bread and eating more oatmeal). i think i eat healthy most of the time, no pop, a bit of wine and iron pills.
Now i am trying to change my diet after this episode.
while i ran, i got shivers although i was drinking water at every table, about 5 tables along the way, drank their fruit juice sport drink once and gagged. maybe i should have had more but didn,t go down well.. i usually train with gatorade. so there it is, where did i go wrong?
