Kirkland wild alaskan sockeye salmon page

At Costco they have frozen bags of "Kirkland wild caught alaskan sockeye salmon" the also have frozen bags "Kirkland wild caught Halibut". Kirkland seems to make just about everything at Costco. I wanted inquire if anyone knows if these these are really "wild" or are they caught wild and then farmed. I would appreciate your insight.

I don't know about the salmon but I read that Kirkland Organic milk is bogus!

Costco originated in Kirkland, hence the name "Kirkland .....".

I just had my first Sockeye from Whole Foods last week and am in love. I'm very concerned about overfishing though. I know I heard a program on NPR recently that had the straight lowdown and what it all means and would have to look it up but am very interested in what the Kirkland winds up being as I like Costco. 411 on Morey's would be great too.

Costco's store brand is Kirkland. They get local companies to make product for them and then re-package it. The issues of the milk, eggs, and butter, you can pretty much guess that it all comes from Seattle where they are based out of.

Thanks for the insight. I wanted to inqurie if anyone knows if their "Caught Wild Salmon" is truly wild or is it caught wild and subseuently farmed. Thanks

To my knowledge, nobody catches wild salmon and then farms them. Farmed salmon are raised from artificially fertilized salmon eggs.

I think kuno1chi is right. If it says Wild Caught, it is most likely wild caught.

I believe I've tried that brand of salmon and it was outstanding.

What the OP may have been referring to is that Mark stated sometimes farmed Salmon are released into the wild and then caught as "wild Salmon". I believe this is the issue he talked about at least.
