    Best Magnesium supplement for sleep?

    Hey all
    I've recently started having trouble sleeping through the night.
    I seem to wake up at about 2.30 every night and then find it really difficult to drop back off to sleep. I'm fine falling asleep, it's more just waking in the middle of the night. I also have started suffering from restless leg syndrome and tinnitus so that definitely doesn't help the issue.

    I have a feeling it has something to do with some medication I've recently started on (Keppra, for epilepsy) but I'm not seeing my neurologist for another month and the lack of sleep is wearing me down!

    Thinking of trying magnesium to see if it helps as I have read good things about it. Can anyone recommend a good supplement that they have found helped? Something I can get on iHerb if poss. I've read it's good to take with calcium too, so I'm guessing I need to find one that combines the two.

    Any other suggestions on how to help with sleeping (and restless legs and tinnitus) much appreciated!

    I recently started taking Natural Calm (magnesium citrate) and it has done wonders for my sleep.

    I have started taking two Magnesium tables (I think 200mg each) before bed and I have noticed a DRASTIC improvement in my sleep. I used to toss and turn and wake up a lot - no more. I usually wake up once in the night to turn over and go right back to sleep. I feel so much more rested during the day. I used to have trouble falling asleep - no more. I was skeptical of the claims at first and it did take about a week and a half to notice a difference, but WHAT a difference! Also, I used to get afternoon headaches (TMJ related sometimes) and that has improved as well. I'm not sure if the headache part is related to the magnesium or small tweaks I have made to my diet.

    Anyway, I just bought a cheap bottle of Whole Foods brand magnesium to start off (because I was skeptical) and it has been perfect. I read somewhere (maybe on this forum) that you should get a magnesium supplement ending in -ate. I think mine is Magnesium aspartate? Not sure. I'm almost certain that Mark has done a post on supplementing with magnesium.

    Be careful which magnesium supplement you pick up. I tried Magnesium Glycinate and couldn't stomach it.. could barely eat for two days. I bought Natural Calm powder to add to a drink before sleeping and that seems to do the trick. There were some posts on magnesium supplements and which ones are recommended if you do a search on here.

    I asked this in an old thread about magnesium, but never figured it out:

    I use magnesium citrate powder (NOW Foods brand, no other ingredients). I mix it into boiling water and it fizzes like crazy, but I still have a precipitate that forms. I want to know what the precipitate is. It's gritty and doesn't mix at all, so it's kinda hard to get it all down, but if it's magnesium, I don't want to not ingest it. I tried deionized water as suggested in the thread where I originally asked, but a precipitate still formed, so it's not due to the mineral content of my tap water. Anyone with chemistry knowledge who could help me figure this out?

    Sure it isn't the other way around?? Natural Calm/Mag Citrate gives me the runs!! The Glycinate= no problem.

    I have ordered the magnesium oil that you absorb thru your skin, because if anything can give you the runs, it will do it to me. I have heard good things about it.
