    kefir milk=raw milk?

    ive been trying to find raw milk but so far ive failed..i think? the health food store has kefir milk but it doesnt seem to say anything else..is kefir naturally raw? btw they have goats milk full fat but it is pasteurized..if its pasteurized would that make it bad? ive heard goats milk is much more similar to humans milk and has lower lactose and casein making it rlly good for sensitive people...any thoughts?

    kefir is not raw milk. It's made like yogurt, through a fermentation process, using kefir grains. Sorry

    It can be made from raw milk - I always make mine from raw milk. But a lot of kefir will be made using pasteurised milk.

    I don't know how much difference there is, but I feel that the natural enzymes and various beneficial bacteria in the raw milk will make it through the fermentation of the kefir grains on the raw milk to make the resulting kefir super healthy.

    I don't how things are in Canada, but here in the UK farmers are allowed to sell raw milk from the farm gate. I am lucky enough to have a local farm which sells organic, grass reared cows milk raw, and not far away is the same sort of set up but selling organic, grass fed sheeps milk raw too.

    The sheep milk makes a much thicker kefir - can't really drink it but it makes a good dip / dressing.

    Which farms are those, breadsauce? I know Sussex, and I'm wondering if I know those farms.

    I understand it can be good for those people, as you say. However, goats are browsers, which means they should really be eating leaves and twigs and suchlike. In practice that's unlikely to happen, and I've heard say that you're very unlikely to find a goat that isn't grain-fed. Milk from grass-fed cows might be better from that point of view: i.e., the cows are eating what they should be. Goat's milks also low in B12 and folic acid compared to cow's. But that's probably not a problem, if you eat other foods that are rich in those nutrients. Either or both, I reckon.

    if i wanted to drink the milk only after training which would you all go for? the kefir or the goats milk? ill just take a tbs of fish oil to balance out the n6 ratio too

    I tolerate kefir a lot better than pasteurized milk (I've never tried raw milk), which made me wonder how kefir compares to raw milk. One of the good things about raw milk is the bacteria it contains, which can help with digestion. Kefir has lots more bacteria than raw milk.

    It's partially digested. That doesn't sound appetizing but it's good for post-workout.

    but I get their milk from a local farm shop, Ockley Court.
