Hello ladies!! Good Luck to you all!! I just had our 3rd baby in July. I have always struggled with PCOS and since going primal...as a matter of fact about 2 months in I was pleasantly surprised with a BFP and our bouncing baby boy came!! I can attest that eating clean and dropping all that weight did wonders for the fertility. My 1st son was a clomid baby, 2nd one came as a surprise and the 3rd we were TTC for over 1 year and even went through a round of clomid with no success.

    Hi everyone!
Work has been super busy, but things are going good. Going in for my ultrasound for my frozen transfer a week from Sunday!

I have been listening to the meditation tapes I mentioned in an earlier note (well, downloads: not tapes ) and they have been great.

Hopefully, this cycle will go through!

    Heather, Rose, et.al...how are you?

    A thought:

I believe there are symbolic patterns to be found linking our emotional state with our physical one. One of my favorite reference books when pondering the psychic cause of physical ailments is You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Hay.

She ties the ovaries and uterus to your Creative Self. Get a mirror, look into your own eyes, and say "I am balanced and centered in my creative flow." then NOTICE if any NEGATIVE THOUGHTS pop in to dissuade you of that idea. Those nagging thoughts are what you need to address and release.

Fire up your creative side, ladies. Get a big canvas or board or just newsprint, then some pastels or paints or construction paper, something COLORFUL. Using colorful modeling clay is a great way to get your body and mind focused on creation. Make an image that is a tribute to honor your creative body. Paint a big glowing uterus, or a womb with a happy baby inside, or the silhouette of a pregnant goddess. If you think this is a hassle . . . pretend you already have a child, and you are going to help them to be creative and joyfully express themselves. The child is YOU. Get back to that mental place where the simple act of scribbling random lines was a delight. Don't worry about making everything "look right." It just needs to FEEL right.

Once you have done this, display the piece somewhere that you will see it every day. When you see it, remember that your body is a creative temple, and your uterus is filled with the potential to harbor and protect a precious human life. If you start to really believe this and feel it, I believe your brain and bod will synch to produce the proper hormones/grow the best uterine lining/whatever.

There may be a concern about coffee and tea, I don't know, but as far as the "acidity" issue, foods and drinks do not have the physical capability of changing the pH of your system. Your body has a series of extremely fine-tuned fail-safes to neutralize/regulate pH changes, and keep you in a state of homeostasis. It's a very, very precise range of "normal".

White tea contains less caffeine than green. I'm not personally excited about the decaffeination process, so I usually pick herbals or tisanes. Rooibus, red raspberry leaf and chamomile are my favorites. Also, I read earlier in the thread a warning about red raspberry leaf in early pregnancy. Red raspberry leaf is an extremely safe uterine tonic and all the midwifey friends I have swear by it throughout a woman's reproductive life. The concern in early pregnancy is that you should not suddenly start downing gallons of the stuff in your first trimester if you've never drank it before. However, if you include it as a routine ingredient in your daily decoction, it's a great friend to conception and healthy pregnancy and can be consumed freely throughout.

As a caffeine free coffee substitute, how's chicory? I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but there's plenty of talk about chicory preparation in the Foxfire books. Also, there's traditionally-brewed cocoa bean drinks (not "hot chocolate", but drip-brewed cacao). There are a couple commercial makers putting roasted cacao products out: Choffy – A Coffee Alternative Made From Chocolate | On Portland --these aren't caffeinated, but of course chocolate does contain a stimulant that most folks reviewing these drinks describe in much less impactful terms than their experiences with caffeine.

    -------------

Meanwhile, Mr. M and I have (theoretically) been trying to get knocked up for years. We did some basic testing and neither of us seems to have any physical problems, so as of now I'm telling myself it's mostly about my weight. I'm about 60lbs down now and noticing that my last couple cycles have been far more consistently timed than before--and I've been using FAM in both directions (both for contraception and TTC) for about five years.

My biggest concern is with folate levels. I don't really trust supplements, and can't understand how we managed to pack enough folic acid into our daily lives prior to the advent of prenatal vitamins. All the "best sources" are still only a small percent of your RDA, and I feel like it's physically impossible to meet the counts relying entirely on leafy greens. I just can't eat that much!

The only other high sources of folates I can find are beans, which I haven't eaten at all since going Primal. Would it be a reasonable choice to add lentils in, say, with spinach and eggs for breakfast? Or does anyone else have a better, Primal, reliably high source of dietary folic acid that works for them?

Well, sure, but can you eat a full four ounces of liver every day? Seems like the vitamin A content might be a concern. Also, I've only ever managed to choke down liver ground and added to meatloaf. I tried very lightly cooking slices of pastured pork liver; it ended up rubbery/crunchy like cartilage and the urine smell made me gag trying to get it down. =(

I've always heard chicken livers scrambled with eggs are great, but I have no good source for pasture-raised chicken livers!

Has anyone ever tried dehydrating liver? I wonder if I could dry it and break it up, then add it into pemmican, if the folate would stay intact?

I am wondering, too, since it doesn't make evolutionary sense. There are plenty of women who don't supplement, but eat well who have no issues. I imagine there is more going on than the current research on RDAs is showing. Absorption may be higher on a Primal diet, for example...

Agreed about not ODing on Vitamin A. Twice a week is plenty for 3-4 ounces of liver.

Here's a folate supplement (and some info) that may be helpful:
    Bioactive Folate

Hey dmc just checking in, as you specifically mentioned me

I'm doing well, on day 18 of a Whole 30 (and down 10lbs yay). Still chugging along, trying to sort myself out and fix my body. No baby plans in the immediate future, just trying to get myself to an optimal state. I decided a while ago I wasn't going to stress or put time constraints on myself and so far that seems to be working very well.

Best of luck with your transfer!! I hope this is your time to grow a person!
