    Anyone gain weight after workouts?

While I'm still losing and getting a handle on food issues, I love my scale. For me, it's a way hold myself accountable. Plus I did an elimination diet of sorts to figure out what foods were bothering me and I'm slowly adding foods back in and keeping a close eye on my weight.

I started ramping up my weight training. Monday was my first big workout and my arms and chest are still "thanking" me. I didn't realize how much I overdid it at the time, because it felt great. Good grief I am sore! And I've gained a pound each day. Any chance that is water weight due to muscle repair? My weight is typically pretty stable from morning to morning, so an uptick like this is NOT typical.

yeah there was a thread about this a couple weeks ago, i think the consensus was that your muscles take on water as they repair or something like that with a more sciencey explaination. basically it should even out in a few days

There's a video were Brad Pilon "gains" 8lbs in a single lifting session. It's normal, and will subside, or I'd be a huge monstrous freak by now.

Correct, this is one of the types of water retention (salt-related, dehydration and hormone related around your monthly period time being the other most common events) that puzzle most 'scale everydayers' at some point or another. The amount retained is generally ~ 2lbs, but could be as high as 5 lbs.

Ok, good to know. I had added almonds and pecans back into my diet last weekend and I was really hoping it wasn't from that.
    Thanks everyone.

yeah, it's just water, just remember it will be coming back out.

The first time I started using creatine I added on like 3-4# in one week. It was a surprise, but evened out eventually.

Well I'm working lower body today with lots of squats and lunges, so I'm guessing it's going to get worse before it gets better. So is it taboo to take Tylenol or ibuprofen? I'm through the worst of the soreness now, but my arms were killing me yesterday everytime I had to extend my arm or pick up one of the kids.

I live on aleve when I'm lifting often, or coming back from a hiatus. (Moreso because of some nagging shinsplints)

Lunges?... why? Aren't those a little sketchy for the knees?

Maybe? I've always liked them, though. I'm still learning... Mostly I stick to the exercises recommended in PB, but I like to add other things once in a while.

I avoid them, but I had some problems with my mcl and lcl last year. I am protecting my knees for more important things, like sleep, and people's ribs.
