So I was in Whole Foods the other day thinking I was going to get some lamb and some grass fed beef, some unsweetened shredded coconut, and some almond butter. The grass fed beef was $39.99 a pound! Are you kidding me! The lamb was expensive too. What do you guys think about ordering meat online? I've never done it and have no clue how they would even ship meat. Are there reputable vendors or websites so I can research this? Don't know if it would be more expensive or cheaper to order online.

Oh and I didn't get the unsweetened shredded coconut either because I couldn't find it and the almond butter was $18.99 for a small jar. $18.99!! I'm still floored by these prices.

I have purchased from a local ranch in Fort Worth (I live here).

Really, REALLY good stuff and priced about right. I was just there last weekend and the owners are really good people. Luckily, I live close enough where they'll deliver it for $5 directly to my door.

    First Post!

Check out www.eatwild.com for a local spot. Here in the Northeast, Wegmans has just started carrying grass fed beef from Argentina. Not so local but they do make a good point about the fact that a cow in the northeast would need to feast on a lot of hay during winter. It doesn't taste as "gamey" as the beef we picked up from a local farm.

That is pricey!! Luckily for me living in New Zealand all our cows are grass feed. I've just watched King Corn. Scary stuff!

I was looking for unsweetened shredded coconut at my WF the other day and couldn't find it either! I discovered they hide it with the baking supplies.

I've ordered from them many times. No problems, the meat's been fine. I love their beef jerky.

I'm going to try to find a local source (northern NJ) for grassfed this Saturday.

I buy my grass fed beef from either Sprouts or Sunflower Markets. They usually have really decent prices and have sales on it often.

That is some ridiculous pricing!!! How do they even have customers?!?!?!

Anyways, I get mine from a local farm. You may find a source of eatlocal.org or the weston a price website.

Life on Earth may be punishing, but it includes an annual free trip around the sun!

I feel your pain about the beef, I'm still mulling over how much to buy. I'm going to order from US Wellness Meats but when I do, I'll make it worth it.

As for the coconut, my WF has it in the bulk section and they actually price it by the pound!! I bought probably 3 liters by volume and it cost me about $1.50 cause it weighs nothing.

Also, usually WF has their own fresh ground nut butter and it's not more than 7.99/lb, just a little over the typical nut price around here. The fresh ground stuff is much tastier anyway (though that's a dangerous thing).
