I had a groin pull a couple years back, but it must have been a different muscle from yours. I could still squat, I just couldn't sprint. It'd probably be wise to just rest until it heals. Try foam rolling and wrapping your leg to see if that helps. Wrapping my leg definitely helped a shin splint I got over recently.
Have you tried KB swings? Seems like they would probably hurt too, but if not, they're a great exercise.
