So, does anyone know anything about oxysterols?
Wikipedia says "Oxysterols are oxidized derivatives of cholesterol", and "consumption of oxysterols or "oxidized cholesterols" are now emerging as the underlying drivers in cardiovascular disease."
Is that just more CW misinformation or does being "oxidized" actually make them bad?
I was trying to research what primal foods could be easily packed and carried on extended camping trips where carrying milk and/or eggs is impractical. I found out that powered milk and powdered eggs have a lot of them (compared to the non-powdered versions).

Free radicals are damaging because they oxidize cells, so it follows that oxidized cholesterol molecules are damaging to the body as well. Any waste byproducts or "cell junk" in the blood/cells/ECM are not good.
I wouldn't worry about them too much if you're only backpacking for a few days to weeks. It would only be a problem if you started living on the stuff.

opt for pemmican and avoid the issue alltogether
