Thread: Do you have an Iron Woody? page

    No, I'm not a Viagra spammer, nor do I want to discuss the virility of primal vs. non-primal dudes. I want to buy a resistance band to use for assisted pullups, and my post yesterday with an exceedingly boring title (http://www.marksdailyapple.com/forum...up-assist-band) didn't get much attention. I used an Iron Woody band at a gym and it was fantastic for assisted pullups and now I NEED to get one ASAP! But, the Iron Woodies only come in pairs or in sets of three or more, and since they're not cheap, I only want to get one. I found a similar one by JumpStretch here: http://bit.ly/8UIGYt Is it basically the same thing as the Woody? Any alternative recommendations?

    The Crossfit gym I go to has the JumpStretch bands, it helps me finish my reps as I get into the Workout of the Day. They work well, but are tricky to get "in and out" of when your are pressed for time and hurrying to get to the next exercise!


    I also cheat my pull ups by jumping up from a box.

    I'm nowhere near even a cheating pullup. But I was thrilled to find out that using the Woody band enabled me to do what felt like a real pullup! It's such an improvement over supporting some of my weight on a chair, which is what I was doing.


    Yesterday was also my first time in a Crossfit gym. A new one opened in the town where my sister lives, but it's more than an hour's drive away from my house. I'm so jealous!

    I think those bands make a lot of sense! Going from zero pullups to a one or two with an assist band, then a handful with the band, then numerous pull ups with the band, eventually a person can be doing plenty pull ups with no assist.


    As reps go up, the band comes in handy to keep improving. I say use 'em!


    I got lucky that a Crossfit gym opened here recently, so I shoot for 3 days a week. I had been doing workouts at home, and emulating Crossfit from watching videos online, but the personal coaching and accountability to form is critical. And at home, I'd lollygag and not get near the workout I do on days I hit Crossfit.


    AND the Crossfit prescribed nutritional plan is: Paleo!

    Hmm, Annika, I hadnt heard of these before, thanks for the links, Ill look into them.


    acmebike-Glad crossfits working out for you. It seems expensive, and ive been hesitant about the cost, but you've made me reconsider since Ive wanted to start for a while.

    Here's a good read on the different types. I'm looking into getting some myself for my garage gym but more for resistance than assistance.

    Maybe I'm missing something...? How do these work or how do you use them? And how do they help with pull ups?

    Iceskater, yah, give it a go. My local Crossfit is new, and want to get the members. I signed up for 3 days a week, for 3 months. Just enough time to make it habitual! I've learned plenty and have taken up my intensity a lot. I may sign up for 3 months more, or just do things at home (it is very possible to get very fit at home, with some information and discipline).


    The bands are stretchy rubber, and you attach them to your pull up bar, put your foot in them and the band pulls up to assist your pull up! Pretty simple.
