Is it okay to swallow the whole clam whole

    Primal Fuel
So i started eating clams for the testosterone but I hate the nasty taste, so I just swallow them up.

Is this okay? Will it get digested inside me?

Alternatively I could make a smoothie with it.

Well, you shouldn't be swallowing the shell.

But, wait -- clams and testosterone? Huh??

Yup, Southeastern New Englander here, I think most of us started off swallowing them whole. Oysters, mussels, clams, etc. You'll be fine. They can not only have HUGE bellies sometimes, which can taste, umm, "mineraly" at best..they can sometimes be sandy. Rinse properly!

So since it's okay to swallow is it better to eat it raw? Does cooking damage it?

I steam my clams but I have had them raw at sushi bars. As I understand it, there are some amino acids in clams that are believed to enhance testosterone production. I have no idea how cooking affects the amino acids. Apparently oysters are particularly high in these acids in the spring - and I think you should definitely eat them raw.

As you are primal, I assume you are still eating red meat for the zinc. I'm curious, are you also eating pumpkin seeds?

I didn't understand if he meant the shell or not. As for what's inside of it, absolutely. Cooked or raw. Although w/ steamers I pull that membrane off of the foot. Just remember it should be closed up tight before cooking or opening raw. Cherrystones, mmm...mmm.

Clam smoothie? I guess w/ cream and butter you'd have a chowder smoothie. As for testosterone you may be referring to the aphrodisiac effect, related to the zinc they contain.

Reminds me of a Hagar the Horrible cartoon. Hagar asks, "What are these things that are crispy on the outside with chewy centers?"

He is told that they are oysters.

Clams, oysters, octopus, conch are all staples for me. Usually raw or in escabeche for octopus and conch. Oysters sometimes stewed or fried. So good that I hate to recommend them just because I want them all.
