Drinking liquid during a meal... Yes or No?

    Primal Fuel
    Hi all,

I have heard pros and cons of drinking liquid during a meal, which confused me because in one of Mark's articles he mentioned that we should wait 2 hours after a meal to drink liquid or 30 minutes before a meal. Yet, we see Mark drinking coffee or wine with his meal?

    So which is right?

This is what I do, I drink a little bit of herb tea like fennel or peppermint tea, which helps with digestion while eating a meal. About half a cup max. Then, an hour and an half later, I'll have a cup or two of white tea etc..

I sometimes have issues with swallowing so I always have a glass of water with my meal.

I usually drink water after a meal. It's normally around 1-2 cups, but it sometimes goes up to 3-4 cups if the food was really salty (bacon, etc).

I drink water after. I have heard all the stuff about liquids diluting the digestive bile/acids and whatnot, and that is what got me thinking about it. I don't buy it anymore, but now it is just habit.

I stopped drinking with meals to force myself to eat slower. I had gotten in the habit of eating too fast, and eliminating the liquid forced me to slow down and thoroughly chew my food. Now I don't miss it at all. I will take a sip of water when I'm dry, but that is all.

    It depends.
If I'm eating watery food - such as raw veggies, I don't need a drink.
If I'm eating food that used to have moisture, but it's been removed from cooking, I'll drink a glass of water afterwards.

I think the point is to not drink excess water - but the liquids in foods are supposed to be there. If we take them out, it seems to be harder on the stomach/digestion - to me.

I agree, which is why I drank up to half a cup of digestive herb tea during a meal just to keep it going and not so much that weaken the stomach juice.

I don't drink a lot, unless I'm eating something very spicy, but I do drink some. The vast majority of my drinking is between meals.
