My Leptin Reset - With Photos

    Shop Now
I have been doing Atkins since March 2009. In April 2010, I continued Atkins, but with a Paleo/Primal slant after reading The Primal Blueprint and visiting this website.

I am one of the success stories in the book The New Atkins For a New You (2010). The reason I am in the book is that I have severe hormonal imbalances and have a really hard time losing weight, even compling with the Atkins guidelines 100%.

I am taking bio-identical progesterone, thyroid and testosterone. I have visceral fat that I just cannot budge and I've been on a quest to find a solution.

Starting on March 8, 2011 - at 150 pounds and 36.5% body fat - I did The 6-Week Cure For the Middle-Aged Middle (2009), and I did lose - down to 145.2 pounds with 32.8% body fat - but, facing shoulder surgery, my cortisol shot up and I gained back all the weight within two weeks, even though I was still following the protocol.

Starting April 22, 2011, I did a three-week round of homeopathic hCG. I started out at 148.6 pounds with 36.6% body fat. I did lose again - down to 138.2 pounds with 31.4% body fat - but as soon as I went back to regular low carb eating, I gained all but two pounds of it back.

So here I am. I started the Leptin Prescription three days ago on July 10, 2011. Here are my beginning stats:

    55 - age
    5'3" - height

    12" - neck
    10.75" - bicep
    36.25" - bust
    31" midriff
    31.875" - waist
    35.875" - navel
    39.625" - hips
    22.375" - thigh
    13.5" - calf
    279.875" - total

    0.506 - waist-to-height ratio
    0.804 - waist-to-hip ratio

    146 lbs.
    51.5 lbs. body fat (35.3%)
    94.5 lbs. lean mass (64.7%)

    This is my dream goal:

    11.875" - neck
    26.125" - waist
    37.25" - hips

    0.415 - waist-to-height ratio
    0.701 - waist-to-hip ratio

    132 lbs.
    33 lbs. body fat (25%)
    99 lbs. lean mass (75%)

To reach my goal, I need to lose 1/8" around my neck, 5-3/4" around my waist and 2-3/8" around my hips. I need to lose 18.5 pounds of body fat and gain 4.5 pounds of lean mass.

    Here are my starting photos:

I am also lifting weights for 15 minutes once a week, according to the protocol in Body By Science (2008), which I started over three weeks ago. I am hoping that the combination of this and the Leptin Reset will be my magic bullet.

    My Daily Guidelines

Here is what I am going to do for the next eight weeks:

Fast for 5-6 hours between breakfast and lunch.
Eat a normal lunch, limiting total carbs to 12.
Fast for 5-6 hours between lunch and dinner.
Eat a normal dinner, limiting total carbs to 13.
    Eat nothing between meals.
Eat dinner no later than 6 pm, 3-4 hours before bedtime.
On weight lifting days, lift weights after dinner.
Be in bed reading by 9-9:30 pm and lights out by 9:30-10 pm.

I am looking at your profile picture and you look great, then I clicked on your you tube clip (very sweet) and your face looks great. Now I am sure genetics is on your side, but you are proof that after 40 you do not have to choose between your face and your arse with this WOE.

I cannot believe you are 55. Good luck with the leptin reset.

Wow! I'm going to hang around here more often! I needed the affirmation!

My father is 82 and looks around 70, so I do have good genes for sure.

On the other hand, my mother died at 62 of the hereditary form of ALS, as did her father at age 59. My paternal grandfather died of Parkinson's, and my 50-year-old sister was just diagnosed with Alzheimer's. So I'm not as blessed genetically as it would appear from the outside.

As a matter of fact, I started a website to show the research behind the positive impact of low carb diets on neurodegenerative diseases. You can visit my Facebook page, which links to the website, Alzheimer's Disease - Prevention and Treatment.

If you "Like" it on Facebook, it will help to spread this crucial information.

I am determined to avoid the hereditary diseases that have devastated my family, through proper nourishment, ketogenic fueling and supplements.

And I am determined to look dang good in the process.

You look amazing! I am thrilled that you are trying to find the magic bullet for you. I am on a quest for the same but don't spend nearly as much time doing the measuring and weighing, it would drive me nuts. I will be reading your blog more often! Congratulations, and that video is wonderful!!! Hugs!
