    hi - name is christine -

    i totally want to go primal - and already on my way - totally GF and organic..but not grain free - all brown rice....but i am worried - have looked for this online and just didnt see it
    i am 5'6" and 100 lbs. want to gain weight!!!! is going off grains gonna slim me or help that cause. i feel bad after wheat, etc...but havent kicked grains yet. of course always yelled at to eat more...
    am i a lost cause?

    Yes, going grain free will probably help you feel better, at minimum, and quite possibly help you slim down in the long run. Ditch the grains, including the rice, for a month and see how you feel (and stay the hell off the scale - read "ditch the scale!" in my sig for more on that).
    Primal eating in a nutshell: If you are hungry, eat Primal food until you are satisfied (not stuffed). Then stop. Wait until you're hungry again. Repeat.

    you want to gain weight right?

    If so, focus on eating fat in combination with carbs, make it all primal.

    I suggest buttery mashed potatoes with whatever protein choice you like... make starches a big part of your diet and keep in mind that most people here are attempting to lose weight so what you read from them will not apply to you. Don't limit fruit consumption for instance, which many do to lose weight. Don't exclude dairy unless you have sensitivities, eat nuts, make high-fat primal/paleo snacks (coconut bombs, etc, you'll learn) and just generally have fun eating primal food.

    Going grain free might decrease your appetite some, but just stay at it. Do strength training to get muscle as well, but you generally want to focus on eating.

    I'm watching this because although I'm doing the PB partly to lose weight, I have a very skinny, picky-eater, I-don't-like-meat 10 year old daughter. I'd love for her to put on 10 lbs.

    Here's my 'primal carb' list to help her gain a bit of weight:

    scrambled eggs (butter & cream) and a bit of bacon (not carbs but at least she'll eat this!)
    white rice
    mashed white potato w/sweet potato
    carrots
    bananas
    full-fat yogurt
    berries and whipping cream
    apples and peanut butter (I know! but she won't eat almond butter)
    nuts
    oatmeal (?)

    Any other great ideas???

    And, Griff, I think you misunderstood the OP ... she's worried about going primal and LOSING weight.

    You're right, I skimmed instead of reading. But I think that the suggestion to eat starchy veggies like potatoes will work better for the OP than any grain. Grains are NOT human food (as we all know). My bad for the skimming; I'm at work and it's a little crazy here today

    Definitely not a lost cause. What I see with a primal way of living is that people tend to achieve healthy bodies, whether they have to lose weight or gain. Losing weight is a common goal that brings people here, but good health benefits all of us. There are quite a few former sufferers from eating disorders around here as well, who have gained healthy weight living primally.

    That being said, you could probably stand to keep the carbs a bit higher than most of the recommendations here, but make sure they are primal carbs as much as possible.

    You also want to eat an adequate amount of protein so your body doesn't think its starving and try to store calories
    Four years Primal with influences from Jaminet & Shanahan and a focus on being anti-inflammatory. Using Primal to treat CVD and prevent stents from blocking free of drugs.

    Eat creatures nose-to-tail (animal, fowl, fish, crustacea, molluscs), a large variety of vegetables (raw, cooked and fermented, including safe starches), dairy (cheese & yoghurt), occasional fruit, cocoa, turmeric & red wine

    This dude is exactly right on the money. If you want to gain weight, you'll need to eat more calories than you might like to. Try blending 1/2 can of coconut milk (full fat), some whole milk, and either a banana + cocoa powder OR fresh berries, maybe add whey powder for protein (or not), and drink before bed.

    thank you all i know i am not the norm but am committed to this!! so coconut juice here i come!! is it still ok to eat my gluten free oats now and then? i already started doing mostly grain free and i can already feel the difference with just my eggs and butter in the morning, no rice bread! i actually have good hope for going primal! thank you all again for your comments. c

    Drop the oats :<(.

    For primal starches use:
    Sweet potato
    White potatoes
    Beets
    Parsnips
    Plantains
    Yuca (cassava)
    Celery root
    White rice

    And don't be afraid of fat - coconut oil, cream, bacon, avocado, pork cracklings
    Cheese is an individual thing, recommended for women trying to lose weight, in your case, add some in
