    Because they look silly.

Since when has the US Army been concerned with looking stupid?

No doubt will cause a spike in their (the shoes, that is) popularity.

As someone in the Army, I still think this is crap.

They want us all to look the same. So all shoes must look at the same, all socks, etc. etc.

Maybe instead they should make EVERYONE wear Toe Shoes and we'll all look the same, and have less problems.
And while we're at it...let's stop all this 5 days a week of running and being banned from the gym during mandatory PT hours. How bout that!

Huh... They just approved them for training a couple months ago, by request from Fort Bragg. They were never authorized for the physical fitness test, (as they may give you an unfair advantage) but they were allowed for training.

Note to all non-military members: This prohibition only applies while participating in organized physical training in uniform. They can't ban them for wearing with civilian clothing.

This kind of crap reminds of why I left the Marines after 12 years instead of staying until retirement. No way I could have taken another 8 years of lunacy. Being a former major was way more appealing than being a current inmate at some asylum, or a military prisoner for assaulting some dingbat who made rank by kissing up but had no idea how to be a leader. lol

Actually, the Army sounds quite reasonable compared to the Marines: "Effective immediately, only those shoes that accommodate all five toes in one compartment are authorized for wear." With us, it was either combat boots or running shoes, whichever was prescribed. Nothing else was tolerated.

Before I clicked on this thread I thought it was going to be because of safety reasons. But, its because of an image problem? Come on! We need to tell Vibram to make a special color just for the army!
