I ate pizza tonight and here is what happened...

    Primal Fuel
I am a non-diabetic with normal fasting blood sugars in the 70-85 range. Tonight I ate pizza for the first time since going primal and then I tested with my DH's glucometer (he is type 1 diabetic). I ate 4 slices of pizza with no red sauce and just veggie and cheese toppings. I had iced water with my meal and no dessert. My 45 minute post meal blood sugar was a whopping 210!!!! I feel awful and will never eat pizza again

Never say never. There are some really good grain-free pizza recipes kicking around this forum. Some use almond flour for the crust or cauliflower rice but some skip the crust and are better known as "meatza" and use ground beef for the "pie shell". It is rarely the topping that up your blood sugar. Nothing wrong with mushrooms and peppers and onions and pepperoni (if it not full of preservatives and fillers). Every once in a while I just really want a stay at home date night with a good movie and some pizza, but the typical wheat crust leaves me bloated and uncomfortable. Home made almond crust is like a crispy thin crust alternative with way more protein and none of the side effects. Plus it fills you up after a couple slices. I always found I was still hungry after traditional take out pizza.

Oh, we eat primal pizza all of the time with almond meal/flax meal crust. We really want to try a meatza one of these days. I just meant that I AM NEVER EATING A WHEAT CRUST AGAIN. I am still hungry after 4 slices and feel like absolute crap in every part of my body.

I should add that my blood sugar continued to rise above 230

I tried Meatza last week, and though I don't think it tasted like regular pizza, it was really good. To be honest, it tasted more like lasagna (at least the version I made) and I was thrilled! Very simple too.

    Meatza Meatza from JustinOwings.com

I skipped the caroway, garlic salt, oregano and ground pepper, using a basic Italian blend of seasoning instead. Top with spaghetti sauce from a jar (Classico is pretty good ingredient-wise), mozzarella and provolone slices, then whatever toppings (mushroom and olive for me).

Seriously, it was SO easy and hardly took any time at all.

The almond meal and tapioca flour pizza I made last week was awesome. I was full after much less than with a wheat crust and wasn't hungry again until around lunch the following day. No ickies.

I can imagine how you're feeling, had a couple tortillas with dinner, and feeling rough...

    The meatza stuff sounds awesome!

Out of curiosity do you feel terrible because the pizza jacked up your system or because you know your blood sugar was 210?
somehow I manage to leave my intelligence and decorum at the door wherever I go. I doubt your journal will be an exception to that - not on the rug
