Dr. K recommends against nightshades when doing the Leptin Reset.

These include eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers (not black pepper), and a number of spices. I made a lamb stem (rogan josh) a few nights ago with tomatoes and a bolognese sauce too and had major upset stomach from them due to the tomatoes and heavy spices. It's a damn shame. Love the stuff, but it doesn't love me...

Complete list of nightshades...especially the hidden ones ^^^^^^

Damn it, peppers are a staple of my diet. I put them in everything, salads, frittatas... hmmm... suppose I will find an alternative.

Wow! I go away for a few months and you people are onto a whole new thing! I've read 330 pages so far and it's fascinating, will absolutely keep reading from where I left off but I had to chime in. I am on board, it's a simple adjustment for us at MDA, really, will give it a go, have already started as of yesterday. I reached my goal weight months ago (5'6", 132 lbs) but I now want to dip a little lower and my sleep could use improvement and the adrenal fatigue info is ringing bells. It's an amazing bonus to have Dr. K here answering questions. I think also this dialogue might be a good tool for the doctor, as we are already Primal so it's not a hard sell, we are just tweaking our protocols based on his recs. Win-win.

Had to quote this comment as it's what I've been thinking all along while reading through:

It was even probably lowcarb and most definitely paleo/primal, maybe potatoes. Just goes to show how we've been brain-washed for so many years. btw, both sets of grandparents slim, no illnesses and lived till mid-90's - guess that's good news for me (hopefully).
So true. I have my grandmother's home-ec textbook from the 20's, been meaning to pull that down and look it over. I think I'll find advice for a big early breakfast that's high in protein and fat. I also keep thinking of a scene in a 30's film I saw. The family is gathered in the dining room where the servants have set up a breakfast spread on the sideboard. The leading lady is seated at the table, eating sausage. The butler offers her some bread. She says, "No thanks, I'm dieting." CW folks would find that hilarious. But that was common wisdom at the time, and wiser than ours.

Where I think we are different from our grandparents, however, is that our metabolisms are broken from years of mismanagment beginning in early childhood (Sugar Smacks, Carnation Instant Breakfast, Pop Tarts anyone?). It seems unfair that we need to spend this much of our attention on fixing this, it's very frustrating. But as Molly points out, we, and our parents in raising us, were led down the garden path by Ancel Keyes et al., so sadly it's necessary for many of us.

Anyway very appreciative of this new info. Thanks to all for the n=1 data. Back to my reading. This could take weeks.

In case somebody missed this - tobacco is a night shade! I don't smoke (luckily) and have avoided nightshades for years as they were causing severe pain (thankfully I found out - my Dr. said my pain was not diet related and handed me more narcotics).

Dr. K - What about smokers and LR? Are the lectins in the nightshades screwing up LS?

I haven't really used it in over 3 years now. To be honest if I were to cheat, I'm not going to admit that here. I really don't masturbate at all period.
Sorry Geo, I didn't mean for it to become an issue, was just making a joke about the boyfriend thing.

From Dr Kruse's latest Post some questions:

    D. "Calories are important when your LR and mean nothing when your LS. Macronutirents count when your LR and mean nothing when your LS."
Do you mean have to calorie restrict - which if you can miss lunch you end up doing anyway.

    No. 26:
Why does pee smell and why need to take B vitamins and vitamin C?
Is it because eating excess protein lose B vitamins?
