    Can paleo reverse premature menopause?

    Primal Fuel
My doctor thinks I'm going into menopause...I'm 28. I have no children, but we were planning on starting next March. I've been Paleo since January....ironically I started missing periods in February...then had one in March...then nothing. Granted I haven't been 100% Paleo, but except for a few sweet indulgences I do pretty well. I'd say 85% at least. If I cut out all forms of sugar, is there a chance to reverse this? Could Paleo have caused this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Paleo will help you balance your hormones a great deal. Reading the book "What Your Doctor May NOT Tell You About Premenopause" by Dr. John R. Lee, MD will help you even more. Seriously it is an AMAZING book, and will really help you.( he also has one about menopause. If you amazon search for him, it'll all come up. His stuff is life changing.)

I'm using Paleo and his methods to help me reverse my endometriosis and estrogen dominance. It's been a life saver. Just ignore his dietary recommendations in the book, because he still spouts the "whole grains" nonsense.

What your dr "thinks" is happening may be interpreted as some kind of hormonal changes, which could be a lot of things. Primal will help, but I doubt there is any way of knowing how effective or what needs to be done unless you see a good hormone doc that will do more than give you a vague theory.

You need some data, and a doc that knows what to do with that data, not a theory.

Is the doctor basing this on your FSH levels, or just from menstrual irregularity?

I am 48 and have definitely seen my hormones balance themselves out in positive ways.

First of all, changes in menstrual regularity are normal when making a dietary change as big as going Primal/Paleo. If this is the only change--don't worry about it!

Personally, going vlc for 6 weeks made me feel worse (low energy), not better. I added back in more carbs (chocolate!) and have lots of energy & have lost even more body fat. 60-80 gm carbs per day now. YMMV.

Magnesium and krill oil supplementation eliminated my menstrual pain.

After 5 months of Primal eating, my perimenopausal symptoms were gone (no more insomnia, dryness, fatigue, belly fat, etc.)

Remove hormone disruptors (xenoestrogens) from your life. Use only paraben-free beauty products and SLS-free cleaning products. Don't cook or store food in plastic.

Basically he did an ultrasound and saw my ovaries. One ovary was very very small he said and the other one was slightly larger and may possibly still be working. He then of course sent me off for bloodwork, which is due back Monday. He said if I am premeno then I will have to see a specialist and that I will require a lot of hormones to get my cycle back going. This of course scares me cause I don't really want anything unnatural in my body, but I want to have children. I have a feeling all of this is not from switching to Paleo and simply becoming irregular but because due to cancer as a child my doctors said I may have early menopause. I've kinda been expecting it, but not quite this early. They told me I should have children by age 30....I guess it was just an estimate huh?

    Thanks everyone for the ideas.

I believe it can, especially if you go vlc.

Avoid synthetic hormones, and use bio-identical.

The blog Mal Paz mentioned recommended this too.

To play devil's advocate here: If you are pre-meno, you may want to consider freezing the eggs you have while they're ok to use.
