ok so thinking i was being very smart and primal i bought a half kilo of flax seeds from my local market today. Sad thing is when i got home and opened up the MDA forums to read up some more about them i realised that they arent actually recommended by a lot of people here.
So should i feed them to the birds or is there benefits to be derived from small amounts of flax seed?
thanks!

Well, you will still have to do something else as far as your omega3 needs. Sadly flax isn't great for that.
I do use it to thicken foods sometimes and yesterday I blogged about using it for hair gel.
I say if you like them don't toss them out.
i wouldnt say that i dont like them. i would like to use them for something, but having read that they come with a lot of health risks, such as increase chance of prostate cancer, im not exactly sure its a good idea?
erikJ's idea does sound pretty good haha
I love flax seed! I use it in all of my grain free baking- adds cohesion that most grain free baked good lack. Plus, it's full of fibre.

I've heard that you get better absorption of the nutrients when you grind or soak the flax. When I was doing the raw food thing, I tried lots of flax stuff. Flax crackers can be good when you're craving that carb crunch or want something to eat your messy foods with.![]()
I bought some ground up and keep it in the fridge.
I make a bun with ground flax, coconut flour, an egg, and Greek yogurt. 2 min in the microwave and that's a meal.
If you have seeds, you can use a coffee grinder for cooking. Keep the seeds in the fridge. I think leaving them out is what causes the health concerns.
It's horrible stuff. Thought I would get "healthy" a year ago so ate 2 tablespoons a day of it. Months later I developed a small goiter and my hair was brittle and thinning. Took me 9 months to figure out it was the flax seed messing with my thyroid. Stopped it and my hair issues started correcting in days. Goiter gone.
Google the topic and you will be horrified.
Flax seeds taste like tiny niblets of nothing. Why anyone would want to eat them is beyond me.
I like cooking with flax seed meal better than almond or coconut. Everyday Paleo's (which I'm cooking my way through in June) breakfast suggestion the other day was pancakes using almond flour. All I had was flax. They turned out fantastic![]()
