Here is what will be available to me tonight: fried chicken, jello salad, potato salad, and a green bean/Lima bean mix. I can't be rude...can I peel skin off chicken and have it or would that be worse than just eating beans?

As Mark says, when there are no good options, use it as a reason for IF... If anyone wants to comment, their focus is definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

    My condolences.

I would either fast or just eat the chicken.

Fast and blame your *lack of appetite* on grief.

That or slip it into the 20% side of your 80/20 rule.

Id take the fried chicken as a 20%. That damn crust is evil wheat based candy

Eat before you go. These things are usually buffet, no? Most people won't notice you not eating if you don't draw attention to it. If it's a sit-down dinner, chicken without the breading and the green beans. Just pick around the limas.

If you feel you need to be eat to be polite I would take the crust off the chicken and eat the green beans. All the yucky flour and oil will come off with the crust.
