    Broke toe in VFF's :(

Ahh it happened! After wearing VFF's for just over a year and hearing the odd person warn of toe stubbing I had been careful up until this weekend. I was hiking up on a slight incline, smashed my pinky into a rock. Doh! Swollen and purple now and cant put any weight on it. Doc says 8 weeks till it heals. Ahh and its the start of summer! This happened to anyone else? Does anyone have some good healing tips for it?

Is road bike riding or swimming still possible without hampering the healing process?

If you were wearing shoes and you tripped and broke your arm cause you couldn't sense the ground as well, would you blame the shoes? and then be mad that you weren't wearing your vibrams? If your here you're probably pursuing health, which means exercise, and there is always ways to get hurt exercising, but we do it anyway cause we know in the long run it will be better for us.

I would try to do all those things slowly at first and if it hurt then back off on it. Grok wouldn't sit around and do nothing if he was in your situation lol.

Iz not a doctor, but how about taping your pinky toe to the next one and biking or swimming as normal. Many a person has broken a toe kicking something they shouldn't have and lived to tell the tale

Definitely tape it to the next toe and continue being active. Broken toes are no big deal. I've broken them in sandals, barefoot, and once in shoes, I don't think it's a vibram issue.

I'd tape it, and maybe wrap a popsicle stick with gauze/padding to help keep it straight.

I broke mine just over a year ago, before I'd started wearing VFFs. I didn't bother with the doctor--just taped it up. It was about 2 months till I could exercise on it again. And that's the toe that is hardest to get into the VFFs now...was painful when I first tried VFFs 6 months after the injury, and now just needs more coaxing than the others.

Oh, and you have my complete sympathy. I do fine with pain in general, but my toes seem to have 90% of my nerve endings in them, so it's excruciating when I injure one!

I broke my toe three weeks ago (1st toe) - and jammed all of them, which also pushed the metatarsals down, so each step was more like stepping on a rock. My chiro adjusted the foot, and did x-rays on it, I think because it was still swelling and the top of the foot was pretty bruised up. I was hoping for taping, but the break was weird and taping would not work ... so I am stuck in a boot for a bit.
I've been taking Arnica tabs as well as using Arnica gel, and using an assortment of essential oils topically.
I'm still working out, just no calf raises or movements that put pressure on the toes. I do ice packs off and on as needed and that helps a lot.

I have broken my left pinky toe twice and my right pinky toe once while wearing Vibrams. I just tape it together and drive on. I am not gonna let a pinky toe slow me down. I would have to lose a torso or maybe my butt to actually slow me down now.
