What are people's views on Tabata?

    Primal Fuel
I've been doing 15 min HIIT sessions now for my cardio for about 2 weeks, before that i did 1 or only one 45 min spinning session.

i've heard about tabata and was wondering if anyone has found that its amazing, not very good, really good done once in a while etc etc

i would love everyone's view who has tried it or researched about it

    thank you

    Lucy

Izumi Tabata has researched about it:
Effects of moderate-intensity endurance and high-i... [Med Sci Sports Exerc. 1996] - PubMed result

It works well and uses minimal amount of time. There might be even better HIIT-workouts, but Tabatas are a good baseline with a proven record.

Well, I don’t hear anything about tabata. You can share some more about that.

I usually do 2-3 tabata sessions a week for 6 different exercies 1 min break in between exercises (takes about 30 minutes). My body is totally spent by time i'm done but after i'm done and rested up feel like a new man and full of energy and body fat has gone down muscle up since doing this routine.

there are actually quite a few conversations about tabata on this forum. a lot of people like it, some don't really get how to do it properly, and some don't see a real need for it. i could take it or leave it. i used to do tabata burpees, but i switched them out for just doing a regular hiit session, which i felt was doing more for me.

i think you've got to try and it and see if it's right for you. it is very difficult; if you're not totally spent by the end you did it wrong (and you should want to give up about 2 minutes in). i recommend using a stationary bike to give it a try. that was the original exercise used in the protocol, and it's probably one of the safest exercises you can do for that level of intensity if you're trying it for the first time.

I've done tabatas both on a stationary bike and with running. It definitly works, IF you do it right, you gotta do the 20 seconds full out, and it's brutal. The last couple rounds are dreadful, but I feel awesome when it's all said and done, and I can actually stop panting, haha. Definitly give it a try.

I do Tabata sprints once a week. I've got a .65mi "track" through the woods that I do it on and the first half is ALL uphill then the next 1/3 gets me back down to original elevation and the last 2/3 is fairly level. It's brutal the last 5-8 secs on the uphill segment, lol! This past weds was the fourth week I've done it and I can definitely tell a difference....BIG difference. I would still like to meet this Tabata dude though so I can kick him right square in the ass
