How do you measure progress? Is it purely personal achievement? Must one be publicly recognized in order to know one has done something well? We all seek approval, however how much is required before we are truly satisfied that we have accomplished something? As Byron said "what will you get from 4, 5 and 6 that you did not get from 1, 2 and 3?"

Round eight of HCG began on Saturday. this will be a true milestone. assuming reasonable success i will soon be under 300 lbs for the first time in a quarter of a century. It is odd to hear people remark that i look skinny. I can blow that off from my girl, she is smitten with me. however when i look at my own body now i begin to see real thinness. I will never be 5'11" and 150 pounds, but i am starting to approach that size where I can no longer feel my body as an anchor holding me to earth. I have begun to startle myself with many movements as well as other things. For instance i sat sideways in my comfy chair the other day, it seemed the thing to do.. It was purchased because it was comfortable, most people would call it over-sized or even double over-sized, but there was a time it was "just right" now i act like a little kid hanging his legs off the sides.

It really says something when your water bill increases just because you need more water to keep the same level in the bath. i displace at least 3 inches less of water and that is noticeable in my garden tub. this year we both fit at the same time. at this rate we will also be able to move around and not just soak.

Bathroom stalls used to be an object of dread. I once had to time my eating so as to avoid being away from home when i needed to use a restroom, I fit in no public space. My own house was build specifically because nothing "used" in the area provided me with a usable bathroom. life was truly humiliating, all the issues i had to take into account.

In many ways my freedom from living at 500 pounds is more profound than can be communicated and sometimes even more than i can comprehend myself. I never gave up the stubborn insistence that i needed, wanted, and deserved to weight less, but i had given up hope that it was possible for me.

But what now? it is an interesting conundrum. Not in a melancholy way, just partially dumbfounded. I am not finished with the reduction so at this time i need to stay focused on that. How I will contribute to the ongoing conversation about health and fitness is still unclear to me. I am extremely mindful of the need for sharing this information. as much as i am mindful of individual free will.

The thing is that while people need to understand that their health is their own responsibility, so many of them have been deluded and lied to and have no reason to think it is falsehood they know. yet i feel that i could do more to share.

    i continue to ponder

    You rock honey badger.
Disclaimer: I eat 'meat and vegetables' ala Primal, although I don't agree with the carb curve. I like Perfect Health Diet and WAPF Lactofermentation a lot.
