I've been sugar free since April 12th 2011 I had a slip up on my birthday in July and ate cheesecake.... took 3 days to get myself back together again mentally and physically. I believe sugar is evil. So are fake sugars. They are the sweetest poison on earth.
Not going to say your body works the same as mine, lets face it we eat Primal but don't have the same exact body chemistry.
When I eat around 50g of carbohydrates or less, I don't crave them so I don't binge or eat anything else after that mark.
I have been primal now for about 2 months, great success with this lifestyle.
I would suggest lowering your carbohydrates to only those found in nuts (not peanuts) and vegetables and see how your body reacts.
Get around 20 to 50 grams in a day and see how YOUR body reacts.
Hello. I'm making bone broth, what I used to call stock, right now. So, sitting here waiting for it to get stable so I can leave. Just discovered this thread again! Its a good one.
Violet, cheesecake did it to me last year. What a speedy recovery you've had. Good. I'll bet it was hard.
Cap Archer I like what u say except for the part about nuts. They are off my list being just as addictive as sugar. So they aren't for everybody.
Dig by I hacvent dared to tru goat cheese with berries but I do get great satisfaction from our Salt Sprin Island made ones with the pansy or basil. Oops, I hear a boil.
Bye.

Sugarbaby I'm finding I can have about a tbspoon of sweet potato with other food. It seems to make me feel satisfied. But I definitely stay away from starches such as rice, potatoes, corn... The only fruit I'm having is occasion grapefruit at the end of breakie... I'm glad to be craving free and intend to return to threads that remind me that I am on fragile ground.
And I turn into a horrible person when I'm on sugar. Hope to remember that!!!!

I subscribed to this thread and then everyone gave it up. It seemed like a good one. Did everybody go somewhere else? Let me know if you did. Thanks.
Hey Violette, it's the too much to do syndrome for me. I got off onto the leptin thread, and didn't give this much time. Summer's a crazy busy time for me, but it's settling down now, so I agree this is a good thread to keep up. Good on you for learning you sugar issues. I can have a taste of something if it is not in my house, like if my spouse orders dessert, but it's tricky. I've been updating my Sugaraholics blog as well, so you might give that a look.

I was a sugarbaby; meaning since I was born I was given lots of sugar, and ate lots of processed foods, especially sweets until I was into my thirties. Most people in the west were/are sugarbabies.

I've been having some stress cravings; you know, the 'I need some comfort' feelings that for me have usually translated in a desire for sweets. I'm really working to keep away from the diet Cokes, which I gave into recently, but they really do increase cravings.

Hi all!
Thought I'd say hello and join in. I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to sugar and I definitely grew up with a lot of it around. There weren't too many sweets but there was a reasonable amount of chocolate and always loads of fruit and a fair amount of processed food. I definitely learned not only to binge on chocolate, ice-cream, fruit and refined carbs, but to have little boosts fairly frequently. I would keep fruit on my desk at work (preferably satsuma oranges...) and often I would have some chocolate or other sweet mid-afternoon.
I did really well for my first few weeks of cutting it all out and then last weekend, my husband had more sugary things in the house than normal and I made a load of fruit purées for him. The fruit was so tasty that I had a couple of pieces of it along with the odd nibble off a biscuit and...bang...sugar cravings were back almost as bad as the first couple of days when I cut it out.
I think I've almost managed to get a handle on the cravings again but I'm much more wary of what I eat at the moment as I do not want to go back to full on cravings. All fruit beyond berries have been banned for now and the dark chocolate has been banned too. Even with 80% cocoa, I was starting to enjoy it *too* much and was craving it - although I'm almost certain it was the sugar I was craving and not the cocoa!
