    That depends on what kinds of foods that person is eating. Macronutrient ratios are a vague guideline at best. The 2/3s of that diet that comprise carbs and fats could easily be had from bread and canola oil. Someone eating white rice and sweet potatoes, and coconut oil and EVOO and animal fats would fare a whole lot better. In fact, I believe that with the right foods and micronutrients, 33/33/33 is a completely doable ratio.

    they would be primal foods, an equal balance of meat, veggies, fruit, maybe some greek yogurt

    I'm still trying to figure out my own macros to turn my fat burner on (trying to figure out how much fat is too much, or too little, kwim?), and curious what a balanced primal diet would do, as opposed to the delicious high fat diet PB normally encourages

    LOL. The caramel apple was a one time deal. I even wish I had gone to Marleys for a burger instead!

    I don't have many primal desserts, either, except for fruit. Trying to rein that problem in. Fruit is so gosh darned delicious!

    Interesting that you ask. I just today started keeping track of my intake again on Livestrong.com. To assess my macro-nutrient intake.

    I know some people who are doing pretty well with a balanced diet. But they never had weight issues to begin with. I have yet to see a person successfully lose weight on a balanced diet long term. But I definitely think its possible just as long as you aren't adding gluten/dairy or processed food and have a good amount of activity. Personally it's not for me but give it a shot and share your results.

    People say I am on a "crazy" diet. What is so crazy about eating veggies, fruits, seafood and organ meats? Just because I don't eat whole wheat and processed food doesn't make my diet "crazy". Maybe everyone else with a SAD are the "crazy" ones for putting that junk in their system.

    I found I lost weight best with a low carb (around 50g) eating only berries (no other fruit), moderate protein (70 - 100g) and then rounding the rest of my calories out in fat. I usually tried to eat between 1500 - 1700 calories. I lost weight quickly doing that (25-30 lbs in about 6 weeks).

    Since my initial weight loss, I've maintained with higher carbs (around 100 - 125) and the same in fat/protein as I was eating before - its been almost two years of effortless maintenance.

    Anyway... I've always found that the blueprint as Mark wrote it (the gospel according to Mark... lol) worked best. I keep reading so many contrary opinions on weight loss (calories do matter, they don't matter, eat more fat, eat more carbs, cut fruit, IF) that every time I think about it too much, I kind of realize that Mark's blueprint sits right in the middle of all that and perhaps following it as Mark laid out, is the easiest! All the tweaking makes my brain hurt.

    That being said, I'm curious to see how the balanced thing works for you! I think you'd have to be pretty physically active to pull it off (ie LLC, LHT & HIIT), the carbs kind of freak me out at that level. I think you'd move from fat burning to carb burning....

    I started tracking today and ended up at 60% fat/19%protein/17%carbs...
