    Rib Shrinkage/Net Weight?

    Primal Fuel
    So I had beef back ribs for lunch. The weight prior to cooking was 2.51 lbs. I should have weighed after cooking, but I didn't, and that's where my dilemma is. I feel like I got gipped. There was hardly anything to eat on them after cooking. I weighed the bones after eating, and they weighed 1 lb 4.6 oz. Is there any way to determine how much meat & fat I got off these rip offs? I don't feel like I got more than 4 oz. I like to track my calories daily, and would like to have accurate information for the day.

    Have you tipped away the fat that was in the bottom of your cooking tray? If you have it, and it's firmed up, I suppose you could try weighing it. Whatever's missing would be the meat, although some of the water in the meat would have steamed off, so it wouldn't be exact.

    I didn't even think of that! I just weighed the grease in the pan. It's 1.7 oz in its liquid state. Is it safe to assume 10% water burned off the meat? That would give me another 3 oz, wouldn't it?

    Hmm... the grease from the pan doubles in weight when solid. How interesting.

    That sucks. I bought beef ribs once and had the same experience. Another reason I am a fan of the pig.
