Ladies how do you kick "monthly" cravings?

    Primal Fuel
It's a vicious cycle for me. I'm completely fine all month....a Primal saint even lol.....I recently went all meat and veggies. No fruit. No dairy. It was great. Now my TOTM has hit, and I can't stop the cravings. I'm already taking glutamine...about 2000mg a day....should I up that? Any other thoughts? Thanks!

I'm in my PMS week now. I was in a monthly binge cycle until I started taking 5htp. I usually take 200mg in the afternoon. During this week, I up it to 400mg spread throughout the day. Read The Mood Cure by Julia Ross

I also allow myself fruit, cheese and sweet potatoes which are not a big part of my normal menu.

I eat all the 70% or higher dark chocolate I want, dipped in peanut butter if I feel like it. Usually 2 squares, maybe up to 4 squares, controls those cravings for me.

This is my first month in about 10 years actually dealing with being a "woman". I kicked the BCP and have been on a raging hormonal rollercoaster this whole month. I have not been able to control my eating habits and have been binging on fruit and 90% chocolate while stuffing myself on meat and vegetables in an effort to control my binging. I have packed on about 5lbs this month so far and am ready to just hop back on the pill. I figured once I started a normal cycle again - this would all be over, but I am about a week past what should have been the start of another cycle and still raging like a beast for any sort of carb fix I can get out of the bare cupboards in my house.

I should never have messed with my hormones - they tell us it's "safe" and we believe them. Joke is on me I guess.

So, I suppose what I am saying is...it could always be worse. Push through it the best you can and try to avoid keeping triggers in your house during your craving week(s).

all I crave during Aunt Flo's visit is chocolate, which I oblige. I have some 99% chocolate in the cupboard. Takes care of the problem

The day before (which is the worst for me) I wanted fruit and yogurt twice, so I had it. I dunno if I am even in the losing weight stage anymore, so I am eating what feels right. Mostly I want meat and veggies, but if a day or 2 each month, I want a diet tipped slightly more into carbs I don't see anything wrong with that. I had maybe 125g carbs. In the past a pms binge would probably have been a day with 3500cal and 6-700 carbs, so this one is pretty minor.

I try to think of it from that point of view too, but it's so hard sometimes. I mean even though I eat ice cream for a few days before my TOTM I used to eat it every night. So progress is progress.

I will definitely have to look into that book. I have battled with PMS disorder for most of my life, but I'm learning to control it without meds. I still use herbal supplements, though. I think I took 5-htp at one point in the past. I will have to dig it back out. I've been using Source Natural Calm Thoughts.....it doesn't work as well during PMS time. I'm lucky, however, because Primal has helped me keep my moods under control all the rest of the time. I guess it can't fix everything all the time haha.

Don't give up. I remember how awful the pill was. I eventually came off too. And when I first started low carb I skipped a period entirely! So I definitely know how you feel. I packed on some weight during that time too, but good news is that it came back off once everything went back to normal. Well, semi-normal I guess...I'm running two days behind again. I hope I'm not in for another skipped one. *sigh*

I have a hard time during TOM, too. I take 5-HTP regularly to control my binge-eating disorder, and I've learned I need to up the dose when TOM arrives. That usually keeps my cravings at bay!
