    question for primal parents??

    When you chose to go primal (we are officially making the switch next month) *hectic living situation right now* anyways, i have a 2 year old and a 1 year old and we have been living with my carby family, and im scared that when i make the switch my 2 year old will not eat! so for you primal parents, did you gradually make the switch with your kids, or did you just *BAM* no carbs (as in breads, etc)? please let me know! thanks a milli!

    I just stopped buying bread and pasta. My children were the same age as yours are now.

    They did fine. Kids are very flexible. Just give them lots of primal options, and they shouldn't even notice. My kiddos love snack platters with cheese, cold meats, veggies with dip, fruits, nuts, hard boiled eggs etc.

    Greek yogurt with frozen berries is their favorite snack.

    Coconut flour or almond flour muffins make an appearance quite often, and they love nut butter waffles with butter and warm berries.

    Bananas dipped in nut butter. (They love cashew butter, but I'm going to try macadamia butter next as it's healthier.)

    Sweet potato fries dipped in aioli.

    It was gradual in that I stopped buying carby foods and then we slowly ate everything up as a family. Now kiddo gets oatmeal and the occasional spelt bread with cream cheese. Its been hard to find a good replacement for the oatmeal and she loves it so much that I just try to limit it to three or four times a week for breakfast and add a ton of fresh fruit to it (no sugar).

    We had some trouble when she went on an anti-protein kick but since she gobbled down every veggie I made we weren't worried and then suddenly she went the opposite and scarfed all the meat and wouldn't touch veggies.

    Like Lil_earthmomma says, just give them lots of primal options. Do fun stuff like ribs or chicken thighs (what kid doesn't like to gnaw on bones?) and stuff like that. If they miss the sweet there is always fruit. Good luck, and be sure to have fun!

    Ooh I forgot chicken on the BONE!!! lol Somehow meat on the bone is extremely entertaining to small children.

    Also, they love to dip their meat in garlic butter. All meat. All the time. lol Don't be surprised if you find your toddler gnawing on a stick of butter.

    Our oatmeal replacement was quinoa flakes. Now they don't even ask for that any more. They are interested in an omlette or homemade sausage patties, or yogurt and berries.

    well i have already changed our way of eating so much in the past year because my youngest is allergic to soy! every conveince food in the store has soy, so we have been staying on the outside aisle for a while now. they do like oatmeal, but i guess i will figure it out! they love love love love love fruit! dont come in between my kids and their fruit, and they love meat...i guess im scared i will have a few protests, since we have been living with my carby parents for a few weeks now...im scared my son (mostly) will protest it all! thanks so much tho...im excited...also because i know my daughter will have no breakouts while we are primal! i cant wait for her beautiful skin to flourish!

    I came across a great book a while ago, "The Unhealthy Truth" by Robyn O'Brien. It's focused more on kids with allergies, but she has some great stories about how she got her kids (and her husband!) to eat healthier whole foods. I highly recommend it.

    My DD is almost 3, but in January she was 2 & 1/2, when I made the decision to switch her to Primal. She was sick every 5 mins, and that's what made me try Primal on her. Now she's healthy as a champion racehorse
    On that day, I asked her how she felt if we shared her food with her friends. She agreed and eagerly started collecting all the crap in the house and boxing it up. Buh bye beloved mac n cheese, lunchables, etc. Then we took it to her friends house and gave them a butt load of food.
    Grace would ask for the food every once in a while thereafter, but I reminded her we gave it to her friends, and then I would open the fridge & show her all the yummy food she could have. She's definitely a bacon & fruit hound now, and I do let her get mac n cheese when we go out to dinner on occasion. She is SO much better for it!

    Remember that YOU ARE THEIR PARENT. What does that mean? You are their steward until they are 18, and responsible for the nourishment of their mind, body, and soul. They will eat what you put in front of them. They won't starve themselves.
    Please teach them NOW that Mama only makes 2 meals: Take It or Leave It

    Daddy is not primal, so I am just slowly cutting down on non-primal foods, and providing lots of primal stuff that they like and give them a balanced diet. They are still eating partially a SAD, but much less. It takes us a lot longer to get through a loaf of bread, and I haven't made pasta in weeks. I think either approach (gradual or sudden) can work, but you just have to use what seems sensible for your family.
