Thread: Toast:my vice page

    Primal Fuel


    So I've done pretty well going primal...cutting out grains and the majority of carbs, but I have one last vice...toast with my eggs.


    Sunny side up, over-easy, omelets, none of them feel right without that piece of toast accompanying them. So what are some better alternatives that could go along with eggs that are grain-free.

    These waffles are great and the batter works as pancakes too. Just cook them longer than you think you need to.

    Yep, meat. There's nothing quite like mopping up egg yolks with leftover thinly sliced steak; I always try to cook extra just for this purpose. Reheated veggies with lots of butter (like squash or cauliflower mash) are satisfying with eggs, too.


    FlyNavyWife, those sausage recipes look really good.

    My hubby has said the same thing and I think sausages are a great idea!!! Also just giving it time. He says (I just asked him lol) that he doesn't miss it as much any more.

    Thanks KC. They are really good, especially with the onions in them (as opposed to the onion powder).

    It's just habit.


    If you can force yourself to give it up for awhile, one day you will remember toast as some vague part of your life.


    I understand, whether it's toast or any other grain/carb.


    OTOH, if you have one small piece a day, there's your twenty percent, in a sense. Don't beat yourself up.

    I used to love eggs with toast, too.


    Have you read Mark's book? After learning how toxic grains our to our bodies, I simply just don't care for them anymore. I had eggs last night and remembered how I used to like toast with strawberry jam with my eggs....but now I get to eat bacon instead, which was something I didn't think I was "allowed" to eat thanks to CW.

    Coconut Flour Bread


    SassaFrass88's CF Bread:


    COCONUT BREAD


    Ingredients:

    3/4 cup coconut flour, 2 3/4 ounces or 80 grams

    1 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    6 eggs

    1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted, 4 ounces (I used Palm Oil)

    2 tablespoons granular Sweetener, honey, or other


    Sift the first 3 ingredients into a small bowl; set aside. In a medium bowl, whisk together the remaining ingredients well. Add the dry ingredients and whisk until the batter is smooth with no lumps. It will look a bit like cornbread batter. Spread in a greased 8x4" loaf pan and bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Remove from the pan and cool on a rack.


    Makes 12 servings

    Can be frozen


    * I used 2 tbsp of Erythritol here & Tropical Traditions Palm Kernal Oil, so here's Nutrition Data's analysis, per serving:


    Cals 171, Fat 10g, (Sat 8g), Sodium 159mg, Carbs 5g, Protein 3g.
