Help me talk myself out of the Easter candy

    Primal Fuel
My boss just came around with a bag of Reese's peanut butter eggs and put one on each of our desks.
I quietly picked mine up and put it on my neighbor's desk - she lives on candy and sweets anyway, so that was nice of me, right? I shoulda just thrown it away.

Anyway, I'm now having a hard time not thinking about that chocolate and peanut butter. Despite the fact that I'm not at all hungry, I'm drinking a lovely cup of black coffee, and I know if I eat one, it will be a supersweet, disgusting mess, will most likely make me feel sick, and will make it more difficult for me to avoid Easter candy for the rest of the week. I wish I had some almond butter and cocoa powder here with me-maybe I'll have some of that when I get home tonight. Yum, that sounds good-almond butter, slightly melted, mixed with cocoa powder and maybe a bit of coconut. I wonder if I could make a candy bar out of it if I stuck it in the freezer for a bit after mixing it?

    Thanks for listening!

It sounds to me like you need to carry primal treats with you just incase you want one.

Now I am hungry for Marks chocolate almond bark.....

Maybe add some coconut oil to the mix. This should help it set up. Or make some chocolate-covered bacon. I often carry a bag of almonds, dark chocolate chips, and dried cranberries. It's definitely a treat, but not so bad for you. Ask the bunny to bring you only very dark chocolate. Sometimes he will take requests.

There are two primal substitutes for easter fare: eggs and rabbit.
In all of the universe there is only one person with your exact charateristics. Just like there is only one person with everybody else's characteristics. Effectively, your uniqueness makes you pretty average.

It doesn't sound like you need much help with talking yourself down.
I read something a month or so ago that really resonated with me: I'm in charge of what I put in my mouth. People can make me feel guilty for it, but no one can force me to eat something without my active cooperation (unless you're in some kind of weird situation where several people are holding you down and force-feeding you..). You make your own choices. When tempted, I remind myself of that.

Yep, no one's holding me down-I can decide for myself. Thanks for the reminder that I'm in charge of what I eat - everyone else can have that miserable sugar high and crash!

It's not a bad idea to keep a primal treat at my desk for emergencies, but I don't typically snack during the day, so I haven't felt the need in the past.

I did talk myself out of it-I'm looking forward the my homemade Reese's when I get home, but the chocolate-covered bacon sounds like another option!

Read the ingredients list on the various candies. Go visibly pale over the sheer amount if crap in it. Problem solved.

This might sound really weird but it definitely works for me, whenever I'm craving something I smell it and the cravings go away. I read somewhere (forget where) that the smell of something can be just as satisfying as eating it. You might look odd sniffing candy, but at least you're not eating it

I second the "make your own" idea. I have a batch of PB filling (sweetened with xylitol, don't judge!) in the freezer, ready to be shaped into eggs and dipped in unsweetened chocolate tonight. Making little treats once in a while helps me and DH stay on track and away from the reeeeeeally bad packaged products, especially around the holidays. Oh, ever notice how virtually every holiday is centered around sweets? conspiracy!
