Is anyone watching Oprah today? If you can, you should.

Today Oprah is doing a show based on the film "I am" by Tom Shadyac, who gave up all his Hollywood millions and did a documentary on how the excessive lifestyle left him feeling "empty and lonely". Quote Tom, "Nature only takes what it needs to survive, taking anything more is called "cancer"'. I'm not an Oprah fanatic, but this show is hard-hitting. The entire show is based on the principles of society determining what is deemed sucessful, and how material goods in no way complete us or create happiness. Tune in if you can!

Sounds interesting as I'm into minimalism as well as primal living. Do you know it you can stream it online? Don't get out of work until 4:30

Then you need to watch this show! I am slowly minimalizing my life and this has convinced me. Ummm...not sure, time shifting perhaps?

Kind of doesn't fit with Oprah's "give all the people all the stuff so they will love me" actions.

Nature takes everything it possibly can to propagate genetics to the utmost. Trees don't grow shorter or stay the same height to make sure the other trees can get enough sunlight, they all just grow as tall as they realistically can in competition. I appreciate the anti-materialistic message but this is just the naturalist fallacy and an incorrect characterization of nature at that.

I set my DVR to watch this episode, can't wait to see it when I get home. I am also planning on going to see "I Am" this friday, when it comes to town! It looks very inspirational )

    Never!
In all of the universe there is only one person with your exact charateristics. Just like there is only one person with everybody else's characteristics. Effectively, your uniqueness makes you pretty average.

Man, if I could give up many of my possessions and a chunk of my savings and still have a home/office with ocean views, I might do it too. That's not likely to happen though.
