Halloween Movie recommendation page

Just posting this for those in need of one. The classic 1963 version of The Haunting:

No gore. No blood. No swearing. Entirely psychological. Not recommended for kids though. Too much of a mind#$%*.

Oh I love that version. I love horrors in general, but that film is a masterpiece in terms of what can be done to scare the bejeezus out of you with just lighting and sounds.


It was one of the films that was an inspiration for Event Horizon (another of my favourite horrors - lots of blood in that one though, but also a strong psychological element).


It's a shame that most modern horrors are more about grossing you out than providing a scare.


I would, however, recommend The Descent, if you haven't seen it - about a bunch of women who go caving and find something nasty. Some blood but it's more about cringe-inducting claustrophobia and the odd boo moment. The characters are decent, strong women as well - which should appeal to the primal ladies who frequent these boards.
