    school bans home made lunches

I just saw this and it kind of makes me mad. I really don't like schools having so much control over our kids. Even before we went Primal the school lunch was unfit to eat.

    What's funny about this:
I regularly took Pad Thai, spaghetti, steak, and other leftovers to school for lunch. I didn't care that it was cold. I usually had a piece of fruit and a soda or, more often, a canteen of water to go with the leftovers.
Almost all the kids that bought school lunch that I ate with went through the same line and got 2 rafts of french fries, then went over to the coke machine and got a Dr. Pepper.
EVEN ACCORDING TO CW, my lunch wasn't exactly healthy, but it beat the hell out of theirs.

State of Ohio is wanting to get BMI info on students to force the kids into school lunch programs for "healthier" kids. I've opted all my kids out of this while I can and you still have to option to pack lunches here thank God. My oldest daughter accidentally forgot her lunch last Friday and ate a school lunch and said "crap tastes better than this shit and crap is healthier for you".

Poorer kids are also more likely to be obese or overweight than middle class kids, and to consume a bigger proportion of their calories while at school.
What do you want to bet most of those kids are eating the school lunch since they get it for free? Apparently 86% of the students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. What I would like to see is a study on the fitness of kids on the school lunch program compared to off of it.

Regardless, I would be livid if I had a child in that school. No way would I accept being told I had to give my child what they said. What about kids from families with dietary preferences that do not stem from allergies? Kosher, halal, hindu, vegetarian/vegan, Catholics who won't eat meat on Fridays, etc. There are so many cultural foodways out there, they can't make everyone happy.

In 1981-2, the CPS thought it would be better to have a "Closed Campus" for all the schools, and took away recess for the outside, and to keep kids indoors, for the duration of that time. For the "Better education and safety of the Kids" in my honest opinion, they failed, badly... Kids still were hurt going to and from school, accidents still happend, in what was called Gym Class, so now the CPS, is considering in bringing back outdooor recess....

    Little Village

Chicago is home to a huge and vibrant Mexican-American community, but nowhere is that more readily and genuinely felt than the Little Village neighborhood on the city’s West Side.

A tiled, terra cotta gateway emblazoned with ‘bienvenidos’ warmly welcomes visitors to experience the supermarkets, taquerias and countless carts and vendors hawking churros, tamales and other authentic Mexican street foods.

As one might expect, the annual Mexican Independence Day and Cinco de Mayo fiestas in Little Village are among the biggest such celebrations in the city.
