    What if you just dump off the oil on top of natural roasted peanut butter and replace it with a healthier oil like macadamia nut oil? That will definitely lower the Omega 6 content significantly.


    As for lectins and aflatoxins, I read somewhere that roasting or boiling peanuts significantly reduces the amounts of these antinutrients, so it seems like eating roasted peanut butter is still a viable option if you replace the oil on top?

    And I know that peanuts are technically classified as legumes, but to me they seem completely different because of their high fat/low carb content. Tomatoes are technically fruits but that doesn't mean we should treat them like regular fruits. Same goes for eggplants which are technically berries (according to alton brown. haha).

    What do you guys think? Personally I don't see any problem with consuming peanut butter, especially with this method.

    Seems like an awful lot of work (and a real stretch) when you could just eat nut butter instead. Also, although aflatoxins might be reduced using certain preparation methods, the lectins aren't.

    Eat it if you want to, but like many other things people try to justify around here, accept that it's not primal and call it a 20% food.

    I don't think it's the oil that's the problem.

    That was my thought too. Almond butter... hell cashew butter, tastes 1000x better than peanut.

    Too much effort.

    It wouldn't be the end of the world if you ate a Tbsp or so once in a while unless of course you are allergic to it. I haven't had any for a long time but it never bothered me.

    People have eaten worse foods in their 20% in my opinion anyway.

    I doubt peanuts are the scourge of modern civilization - occasional forays into legumes are unlikely to harm too many people. But almond butter tastes better.

    Almond butter... hell cashew butter, tastes 1000x better than peanut.
    your tastebuds, not everyone elses. i agree that almond butter tastes good, but it never satisfies a peanut butter craving

    I strongly disagree that almond butter tastes better than peanut butter. Don't get me wrong I love almond butter I just place it in a different category than peanut butter. Do I eat almond butter and celery? Nope, can't do it it just tastes all wrong. I love peanut butter especially with chocolate, but I always reason with myself that it has lectins. Would I eat grains? no, they have lectins.
    Anyways I got a little off track, I like the idea of replacing the oil in the peanut butter if one must consume it in their 20%.

    If you're absolutely desperate for peanut butter, then roast your own nuts & grind your own butter. Use coconut oil. Voila! PB in 30 mins. Quality controlled and probably cheaper.

    Just don't ever tell me peanut butter is allowed, or I'll never get away from the deathly grip of Peanut Butter & Co's White Chocolate Wonderful!
