So why can't nuts just be nuts and no contain so much crap?

So at the store figured I pick up some nuts for a snack. I go and look at the cashews first. Salted cashews ingredients cashews, peanut cottenseed and soybean oil, salt thus no good. But wait! "Natural" unsalted cashews ingredients cashews, cottonseed oil. huh?

so I turn to the almonds. dry roasted almonds no oil but has msg and a ton of spices i can't have. But then oven roasted unsalted almonds ingredients almonds, CORN MALTODEXTRIN. UH WHAT? WHY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND.

Sunflower seeds same thing. Roasted with oil its peanut soybean or cottonseed. unsalted versions also for some reason contain these oils.

    HOLY GOD WHY.

Dry roasted macadamias are fine just nuts and salt but cost so much, raw nuts are also a premium.

2nd the baking aisle, or find a grocery with a good bulk section. I tend to get my nuts at Whole Foods. I get raw macadamias and roast them myself.

Except cashews. Cashews are always sold roasted. There is a liquid in the shell surrounding the cashew that is toxic which is why you can not buy them in the shell.

In my "normal" store the ones in the nut aisle are bad, the ones in the baking aisle are ok, but expensive, but there are some in the produce dept that are ok. But usually I buy from bulk bins.

I get mine at Trader Joe's.

The ones at Costco come in all sorts of crazy flavors, the ingredient lists are just ridiculous. Don't even get me started on their "healthy fruit and nut" snacks. Ewwwwwwww.

Baking aisle, health food store, or check the dry foods bins.

If you have an Indian grocery store near you, you can find raw nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts.. dunno about macadamia nuts though) there... I would recommend soaking them overnight before eating though.

Baking aisles, bulk food stores, etc. Look for DRY ROASTED, which means it's not roasted in oil.

NutsOnline has just about every variety of unadulterated, raw (including cashews... although they are shelled) or roasted nut you can think of:
NutsOnline | Premium Bulk & Wholesale Nuts, Dried Fruits & Gift Baskets

    Raw cashews are tasty!
