    Whole 30 Question-- Eating Out

    Shop Now
Thinking of doing Whole30 in April. It says a few things that raise questions, mainly about processed stuff, special occasions, etc. Biggest question: does it mean no eating out? I am trying to make a point of going out once a week with the husband, and we were thinking of going to steakhouses on his 2 pay days next month. Do I fail W30 if we eat out?

Oh and can we eat conventional meat? Hubby pretty much refuses to pay more than $4/lb for critter.

I'm doing Whole 30 and eating mostly conventional meat, we can't afford the good stuff at the moment. You can still eat out, but you'll have to be VERY picky about the restaurant, and probably be that obnoxious person who asks a million questions about how the food is prepared. If I remember correctly the Carnitas at Chipotle are paleo approved, and I know in my area there is a Mongolian Grill that basically lets you pile your plate high with meat and veggies, top it with sauces of your choice (mine has simple things like salt water, garlic, ginger, stuff like that), and when it's on the grill they can add an egg. We're definitely going to go there before my Whole 30 is up

Make sure you double check on what kind of oil the cook it in!

Also, not sure where you're at, but I get local grassfed beef for 3.99/lb..

EDIT: Oops, Utah.. hmm, not very far.. have farmers markets started up yet?

It really depends on how strict you are being and how much you trust other people to prepare your food within your requirements. I worked in restaurants for years, and there are no guarantees, even if you are told something... so if you want a guarantee, cook for yourself. It is only for a month, and maybe you can prepare a special meal at home that you would normally not as a special occasion. For us it was a delicious crab and shrimp boil

Nope. Just be sure what you're eating! Ask about what it's cooked in, what's in sauces etc.
I would think at steak houses, you best bet would be meat + veg.

Deciding to eat out while doing Whole 30 is like trying to beat Mega Man 2 using just the Buster Cannon.

    IT'S HAWD.

Steak + salad. Not too rough. I'm just choosing not to eat out this month; it's only for 30 days, after all, but most any place offers steak & salad. If it's a super nice restaurant, I ask for evoo + vinegar to be brought out for the dressing, but unless the entrees are over $15 each, many restaurants don't even have olive oil on site, amazingly enough. I keep a tiny bottle w/ evoo & balsamic vinegar mixed in my car for just such occasions.
