I'm giving up using the spellchecker for Lant
The actual day for easter is the first sunday after the first full move after the vernal equinox.
So this year March full moon is 3-19, but equinox not until 3-20. April 18 is next full moon, making Easter on 4-24. (yes I am geeking and know these things).
Lent is actually a moveable feast that is 46 days prior to easter (according to WIKIPEDIA)46 days (40 days not counting Sundays) as someone said above.
Still pondering what to sacrifice. My friends chimed in and asked if they had a say on giving up caffine. They said coffee wasn't good enough if you are going to replace it with other stimulents. Hmm I think there still might be some logistical play in there.
I don't know if I can give up dairy. just seems too scary.

I'm giving up using the spellchecker for Lant
After a full day of pondering and then finding my self yelling at the car in front of me. I am giving up cursing and desparaging remarks.
I figure with all the other excercise and food changes it was time to make an internal personal change.
so no words like <r@P, @$$, dumb @$$, etc. If I don't have anything nice to say, it is not going to come out of my mouth.
My hubby was laughing and baiting me last nice. Isn't that sweet.P

Giving up all "primal" sweets (e.g. dark chocolate). Since I'm also trying to do my first [modified] Whole30, I'm giving up all dairy with the exception of butter and occasional full fat yogurt (Fage) - at least until my order of coconut oil comes it. Since I'm restricted to dorm/dining hall food and therefore "pure" fat sources are not readily available (e.g. coconut products and avocado) I'm trying to minimize dairy as much as possible but realize I may need to use as an additional fat source.
Any suggestion for other things that I can use as fat sources?
Several years ago I gave up religion for lent... and it stuck...

THP beat me to it. I gave up organized religion for Lent when I was 14. I can honestly say, I broke the habit.
(No offense meant, this was merely MY spiritual path.)

Oh....that is EXCELLANT ! BRAVO to you.
I suppose you have read, Vitamin, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver? Who by the way, now lives here in Virginia, very close to where I will be moving to get out of the rat-race of the DC area and it's traffic and pollutants.
The book blew me away---( a must read for everyone concerned with what they are putting in their bodies) genetically produced seeds that can withstand Round-Up---ewwww.
They have the market cornered. Thank the Lord for wonderful, local farmers markets that grow their own food, without the use of pesticides.
