Antiviral Phytonutrients
Hi Folks,
I am trying to write a paper for my biology class on the antiviral properties of phytochemicals/nutrients. I am on the hunt for some proper sources for the topic. Unfortunately, apart from my own schools database, most of the nitty gritty is locked away in subscriber databases.
Have any of you folks come across some quality information sources, and more importantly FREE, regarding phytochemicals? Any info that points me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Have you looked on PubMed yet?
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/
My search for 'phytochemicals antiviral' turned up 25 results. Granted, not every result will have the full publication available for free. If you're at a university, they likely have subscriptions to most/all of the relevant journals -- just log in to your school's system & you should be able to access the info.
This result looks especially promising:
Mini Rev Med Chem. 2008 Oct;8(11):1106-33.
Antiviral activity of phytochemicals: a comprehensive review.
Naithani R, Huma LC, Holland LE, Shukla D, McCormick DL, Mehta RG, Moriarty RM.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help! Didn't know about pub med. I'll give it a shot. I've looked through my schools database and only found one truly useful article. Perhaps my topic is too narrow.

Just Google "antiviral phytonutrients" ... I just did, and got lots of hits. Some are from people selling extracts, but others have general information.
First page: honey, mangosteen, allicin (garlic), a tea bag for cold sores, .... lost patience, there were a lot more.

Regarding the antiviral properties of lauric acid from coconuts:

you may also find google scholar useful (lots of stuff behind paywalls but the abstracts may be helpful)
