    Diabetes Bounce Back

    Okay, so I'm going into my 4th week of primal and with the exception of incorporating fewer IF days during week 3 (life intervenes) I haven't changed my eating habits (I do the 8/16 window IF when I do IF). Exercise has been sporadic throughout, but diet has been consistent.

    Pretty much what I eat is meat (mostly beef, some shrimp and chicken and crab legs, and pork sausage), Macadamia nuts (the occasional cashew in week one), Eggs, some cheese, and occasionally lettuce and tomato or sauteed onions and peppers with meat. There was one day when I had a bean-heavy chili (week one) and one day when I had marinara with Italian sausage (early week 2).

    Now at the end of week 3 everything is getting wonky with my fasting numbers and I'm not sure why. Here are my early morning fasting numbers starting at day one, week one going through today.

    *shrUg* I'm just kinda baffled why they stopped going down and swung around back up.

    Other than increasing my exercising (which I know I need to do to reduce my insulin resistance) does anyone have any suggestions for what I could be doing or doing better to get my numbers down under 120?

    My workouts, when I do do them, usually include alternating kettlebell days and bodyweight days with 2-3 days in between. I'd like to be walking an hour a day, too, but that isn't always practical. I haven't incorporated sprints yet this go-round.

    Well, ideally, you would walk an hour a day, and sprint once a week. I would suggest tabata on your off days.

    Edit: you don't get NEARLY enough exercise. If I read it right, you are getting about 90 minutes a week.

    My blood sugar is way lower when I do high intensity training. So v. heavy lifting, tabata squats and sprints, etc. Exercise should really be a priority if you want to keep blood sugar in control. I don't really do the low intensity walking yet though, but I'm sure that it will also help if you can fit it in.

    2012 Goals:
    Maintain A1c of 6.0 or lower
    More dietary fat, less carbs, moderate protein
    LHT and sprint as per PB fitness
    Play more!

    Mine was 87 this morning and I didn't take any insulin before bed. I ate no carbs for dinner and did some sprints on my bike, pullups and pushups an hour or so before bed.

    I would suggest trying only meat for dinner and exercising before bed.

    My sugar is always sky high right after a workout, but nice and low a few hours after, and throughout the remainder of the day. Just backing up the voice here that exercise is way important.

    Wow...It goes up after a workout? Mine goes down to the mid 60s almost every time. Are you eating before the workout?

    Erm. My health was already downhill. Hence the Primal thing. And as I said in my initial post, I am eating some veggies. Currently no fruit (unless you want to get picky about the proper designation of tomatoes).

    Initially going Primal chipped away at my numbers, but they've lately started going back up, but they're still about a hundred points lower than where I started. But hey, thanks for the helpful reply.
