Worst diet advice you've ever taken...

I was just sitting here basking in the glow of being primal and thinking about stupid diet advice I wish I'd never heard like eating low fat and snacking constantly. I remember back in the late 80's and early 90's when low fat was thought to be the cure for everything. What a horrible, devastating idea that has been for our health and our waistlines in the US. And those 2 or 3 snacks a day only served to make me think of food constantly. Going primal has been so liberating on so many fronts.

What is the worst piece of diet advice you've ever taken?

Something like 50% carb, 40% protein, 10% fat for your 'mass phase'.

Per doctor's recommendation, in 1982, went five months on 500cals per day, walking four miles every morning at 6am-- didn't cheat once! No one can tell me that weightloss is all about willpower. Laid a firm foundation for extreme insulin sensitivity. Set me up for a twenty-plus years of yo- yo diets until I read Atkins. There are lots of lives ruined by CW, and bad science.

    Always eat breakfast.

I'm never hungry in the morning, but I ate anyway. And then I was hungry all day long. Of course, I was also following the advice to eat lots of small meals all day long, so I guess it worked out

    Anything involving not eating animals

My whole life, I've felt like an animal......but I've ignored my instincts. I ignored what I really am. That will never happen again.

    Eat more whole grains.
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, steak in one hand, chocolate in the other, yelling "Holy F***, What a Ride!"
