The Nobel committee has a long history of awarding prizes to idiots. Alfred Nobel must be turning in his grave.

Given the recent post by Mark, I thought you would all find this article interesting, at least. :-)
Luc Montagnier, Nobel Prize Winner, Takes Homeopathy Seriously
Dr. Luc Montagnier, the French virologist who won the Nobel Prize in 2008 for discovering the AIDS virus, has surprised the scientific community with his strong support for homeopathic medicine...

Al Gore, Yassir Arafat, Bono, and Obama have all won Nobel Prizes, and Obama was put into the running before he was even elected.
The Nobel Prize is a popularity contest nowadays.
There is a difference between the Noble Popularity, uh I mean, Peace Prize and an actual Nobel Prize for a hard science. A Nobel Prize in Medicine is nothing to sneeze at.
how can I read the post by Mark?

The first three minutes of this video actually shows the process of creating "homeopathic vodka"...(yes, as satire)

oh, thanks for the link....I just have to say I'm a little disappointed that the primal position seems be sort of narrow when it comes to the alternative world. Allopathic medicine does some things VERY well, but it has limits, as other systems do also. (read scientism has limits)
Just because he's a smart guy and does well in his own area of expertise, doesn't mean his opinion is at all valid when it comes to homeopathy.
It's a common logical fallacy called "appeal to authority" - just b/c they're an authority on something doesn't mean squat when it comes to....something else.

having said that, I'm a big fan of many things that are considered alternative. I just want evidence.
I had two homebirths.
I nursed my kids for 4 and 5 years.
I heavily utilize nutritional supplements (vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids) even though I'd prefer not to. I still appear to need them.
For me, it's all about 1)evidence, 2)biological appropriateness, 3)rational/logical thinking applied to both, or to another options where there isn't much evidence available. Homeopathy just isn't holding up. The evidence doesn't look good, quite frankly.

All someone has to do is prove that water remembers what it was once next to and affect an organism as though it was the substance itself. I can't believe that folks are so narrow minded as to doubt this without proof. It's so logical. Har.
Considering all the places water molecules go and the things they get exposed to, I'm really, really hoping that this never happens. LOL

Exactly, cillakat - if there's actual evidence for something considered "alternative" like many different herbal treatments, sure...go for it! Chamomile, lavender, catnip tea DOES calm/sedate. But homeopathy is complete bunk.
I get just as annoyed by people who think just because something is "alternative...ancient wisdom" that it must have merit to it! Some ancient wisdom advocated human sacrifice, after all.
